I went to the pet store yesterday to get some cat food. I took a load of
tins and pouches to the counter to pay, and the girl started scanning
the prices. She had a big black d*g with her behind the counter, and as
I stood there waiting, he suddenly reared up on his hind legs, put his
front paws on the counter and grinned at me. I could almost hear him
say, "How may I help you?"

So cute ;) :)  I can just see the doggy smile.

I'm doing errands today, so I will probably see Reggie the Orange
Smurgler, and the Stripey Boys.  :)

Goodness.  I sounds like you'll be taking care of some old-time
Chicago gangsters.

LOL! And it's no surprise it was a dog. I think a cat would be *sleeping* on
the counter, open one eye and say, "Aisle 7. Get it yourself."

LOL. Isn't that the truth?

I will say that dogs really excell at grinning.  I love it when I go into a
workplace where a cat or a dog is hanging out.

Dogs DO excel at grinning.  You can just tell, they are either laughing at
you or just plain goofy.  Cats are more aloof when it comes to grinning, but
they do, yes they do.  But only when they feel like it :)

I think cats have a satisfied look when they smile.  It's subtle, with the
corners of the mouth turned up.

LOL!! A checker in training. I would love to have seen him. I bet he
got a lot of attention.

I was the only customer in the shop at the time. Now, I don't know much
about dogs, having been a cat person all my life. I tried to give him my
hand to sniff, like I would if I met a cat, but he ignored me and
stepped down. Maybe he was just very well trained. But that grin was so
welcoming and encouraging.

I've been a dog person most of my life, Laku's the first cat trying to
teach us proper manners. A dog at a store would probably be *both* well
trained *and* fairly used to ppl poking their hands at him or trying to
pet him. Most would probably (be trained to almost) ignore hoomin
customers, as it would probably not work out too well to have a dog in a
shop pestering all the customers or running off with the interesting
ones... :)

Maybe you were one of the interesting customers. An untrained dog would
have run off with you. Just imagine the confrontation at your place with
you brining home a dog and Frank and Nikki meeting you at the door...
"Where'd you find *that*??"  :D
