Poor Bootygirl has a swollen front leg and is limping. I can't find any marks
onit but she won't let me touch it much either. Two possibilities, she either
landed badly and sprained it, or she got stung.
DH was messing with the beehives today so I strongly suspect it's a bee sting.
She knows not to bother them but they were pretty riled up. And she's always
two steps behind him whatever he's doing.
Now he feels all guilty and *carries* her back and forth to whichever room he
is in so she doesn't have to walk.
So that was our Labor Day crisis. Seems like we always have one. One of the
queen bees died, too. All the workers were crawling outside the hive and DH
lifted the lid to see what was wrong and there she was about to croak with
about six drones surrounding her, kind of sad. I guess without a woman telling
them what to do they just didn't have a clue what to do.
Frank went outside and massacred a Monarch. That's about the extent of his
hunting skills. Biskit accidentally got left outside for about 30 minutes, RAN
back in meowing pitifully and screamed and bellowed all the way to the food
bowl. Like "I've been outside for DAYS! With no food! What's wrong with you
people?" As far as I could tell, Yoda slept about all day.
And that was our Labor Day weekend Sunday. Hope everyone else had a good one.
(for our international friends, Labor Day is a Monday federal holiday. I have
no clue what it's for, except a last-chance for summer fun)

From the U.S. Department of Labor site:
"Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor
movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of
American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the
contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being
of our country."

If I remember correctly, it's also celebrated up North. Don't know if
the Canadians get the day off, though. So, assuming my memory isn't
playing tricks on me, happy Labor Day to our northern neighbors ;-)

Yes, Labor Day is in Canada too and it's a day off. Here in Thailand, and
in many other countries, it's on May 1st.

Purrs coming for her poor swollen foot, and of course for the hive
that lost their queen. Glad the day went better for the rest of the
gang there once Biskit was rescued from the terrible "Out". I guess
it's progress, though, that she ventures outside at all.

Purrs for Bootsie's leg to heal soon and Biskit to calm down after her

A much more eventful weekend than me! Give the Biskit a scritch for me and
will send healing purrs to Booty Girl. Dimples(childhood/now RB) got stung
on the cheek once. Ewwwwww. It got full of ick and burst. Luckily I had her
in the bathtub at the time. Hope Booty's goes down naturally. Tell Yoda
that's about what I did yesterday.

Oh my! You guys had an exciting Sunday. I'm sorry about the queen,
and for Booties leg. Bee sting sounds likely from all that, poor
girl. I hope she isn't too allergic! For me it was just yard work,
and pruning some tree limbs (small ones - my brother got me one of
those long pole pruners for Christmas last year) and I just HATE
doing that stuff this time of year. Spiders are everywhere and
every time a branch came down I was imagining spiders coming down
with it. IICKKK I don't like spiders very much.

In the cases of bee-sting i have heard that you have to be sure to get
the stinger out of the wound to forestall infection. I had a cat years
ago get stung and he had to take antibiotics cause they couldn't find
the stinger in his mouth where he was stung! I don't know if cats can
take antihistamine or not--my dog can. But that would help the
swelling and any other effects. Maybe a call to your vet? Purrs...

I was going to call the vet at home if it got any bigger today. But it's
completely back to normal. Thanks for the tip about the stinger. I tried to
look at the leg, but didn't have much success, she wouldn't let me. I'll try
again.

Awww, purrs for Bootsie, and for your hive. Can you just get a new
queen? Or will you have to start another hive? I don't know much
about bees, but I think they're very interesting.

DH couldn't find another queen immediately, and by the time he ordered one, the
hive would dissipate for lack of a queen telling them what to do. So he moved
the hive right next to another hive, in hopes that the workers & drones will
move next door where there's a woman to boss them around. :-)

Vino got stung by a bee before. It happened a couple of times actually.
When we were still in our 12th story condo in Vancouver, Vino used to go out
on the balcony all the time and we had some potted plants that attracted
bees. He got stung on the nose and mouth. He flinched when it happened but
didn't swell and after a few minutes he was back to normal. It must have
hurt though because after each incident, he avoided chasing bees for a long,
long time!

Purrs for Bootygirl's leg to get better. You're probably right about it
being a bee sting.
