Debbie Wilson - 06 Sep 2004 16:54 GMT HI folks,
Just thought you'd like to know that Babanina, the tiny kitten my friend has been hand-rearing, is now doing very well. Her eyes opened a few days ago and she is learning what her legs are for. She is also teething and is chewing on anything and everything around her, including her own feet :-) She wasn't gaining enough weight and caused a lot of worry for a while, but my friend sourced some KMR locally and since then Babanina has been growing like anything. She sent some new photos which if you'd like to see are here (KF warning!):

Magic Mood Jeep? - 06 Sep 2004 17:01 GMT Oh my, what a darling kitty! If it weren't for the white, she's look EXACTLY like my Weeble when he was a babe. You can see Weeble's baby pics here http://community.webshots.com/album/87385216QpelvE
Kudos for your friend for doing such a GOOD job.

Steve Touchstone - 06 Sep 2004 17:43 GMT >HI folks, > [quoted text clipped - 8 lines] > >http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/diatomdeb/album?.dir=458a Aww serious KF is raging here. Looking at the little girl so reminds me of a kitten we found and hand raised way back in the mid to late 60s. He was named Mittens because of an extra toe on his little white feet, which made him look like he was wearing white mittens. He was the one found and raised by our male daschund who thought he was a d*g for the first year of his life.

You did well to hand raise him back then, presumably without all the special kitten formulas and stuff we can get now?

Well, first he learned that he could climb the fence, while his furry siblings had to stay in the back yard. Then he discovered girl cats <g> As far as the hand rearing - I can't really take any credit. Mom, who didn't then, and still doesn't, particulary like animals did all the work. She's a retired nurse, and I guess the Florence Nightingale in her came to the forefront to help Mittens survive. I think Mittens is the only one of our pets that she ever cared anything about, and she still doesn't like cats because they get on her car and leave pawprints.
Actually, he would have had a better life if we'd known about neutering and such, but at that time about the only time pets saw a vet was when they were deathly sick. In fact, the only time he got any shots was when he brought home a ground squirrel and then bit someone when they tried to take it away from him. He had to go into quarentine and get shots then. Even then, I don't remember the three dogs getting their shots being brought up to date. TED trips just weren't normal practice for us back then.

Even more of a miracle that he survived - your Mum must be a great nurse, especially if she didn't really like cats! So funny to think of him climbing the fence while the canine siblings sat and thought, "Hey, how'd he DO that?!?"
