Q: stripe on nose?

This is a strange thing I've observed on Frank now and then. As most of you
probably know, Frank has a pink nose. Every now and then, a stripe along the
top of the pink appears. It's a brownish stripe. Sometimes it's only a
pin-stripe, barely perceptible to a worried Meowmie's eyes, but the other
day it was thick (about half a millimetre (0.02 inches?)). Sometimes there
is no stripe at all. I'm wondering what it can be. The first thing that came
to mind was some sort of blood clot that gathers at the top of his nose.
When he had the thick stripe, I rubbed his nose and a while later the stripe
was gone. It wasn't some smut *on* his nose, it was under the skin. Does
anyone have any idea what this could be?

I think it's time to make an appointment with TED. It's about time for Frank
to have a thorough check-up. After all, he will be 17 in November. I just
wanted to check if anyone here had any similar experiences.

Oh well, Marina - sounds like you spoke too soon when you thanked folks
for taking you seriously...

I've never heard of that, Marina, but it's odd especially that it disappears
and returns. I wonder if it's related to blood pressure or some other variable.
Does it seem to appear only when he's active, or sleeping too?
It could be just one of those things that appears on older cats, too. Cherokee
had black flecks in the colored parts of his eyes, and I fretted about them.
The vet said they were nothing to worry about, and only appear in cats whose
ages are double digits.
Let us know what TED says.

It seems to appear especially when he's been sleeping a long time. Blood
pressure was another thing I thought of, too. It's so weird. Thanks for
taking my question seriously, though. Now I don't feel so stupid asking the
vet about it.

Could it be just normal color changes that are particularly visible in
a pinky nose?  As we've discussed, Stinky's pink nose varies in shade
depending on his mood, and the temperature.

Frank's nose varies, too, from nearly white to deep red, but this is
different. I tried to take pics today when the brownish stripe was showing
again, but they came out too fuzzy (hehee, in more ways than one).

It's his little imperfection that makes him perfect. Just as me having only one
eye is the little imperfection that makes me perfect.

Oh, don't feel stupid at all. Especially with a senior citizen cats. Even very
subtle things can be good indicators that something might need attention. The
reason I wondered about BP is that my neck used to get red when myBP went up.

Wierd. Please let us know waht TED saysabout it. I have never heard of that

I know. I love my blackies, but you would think the mothership could have
sent me at least ONE different color.

I've had quite a few white cats (with pink noses) over the years.  I
vaguely remember some of them had a darker "outline" around the pink
nose, but can't remember whether it was constant or intermittent,
because I never really paid it much attention.  FWIW, they all lived to
ripe old ages, so I doubt it's anything to worry about.

That is strange.  I have one pink-nosed kitty, but haven't seen anything
like that - she is still fairly young though, just 6, so if it's age related
it wouldn't show up.

I would think maybe blood pressure?  Definitely talk to the vet about it.
There ARE no dumb questions when it comes to the health of our babies, you
don't know what weird symptom my give the vet a clue to a problem early
enough to do something about it.

Is it seasonal?  I had a white cat who hat a tiny streak of black fur on
the top of his head that came and went with the seasons.  I doubt
whether it's anything to worry about, but can't hurt to ask your vet.

I don't know, but I think Rufous' nose does a similar thing. Fez and
Rufous both have pink noses (and all pink pads!), but I've noticed
Rufous has some brownish spots on the top part of his nose. I never
noticed them before, so I'm guessing they're new. Didn't think any of it
until you mentioned it. Let me know what TED says!

I haven't seen anything similar, but I agree with you about the
checkup, just on general principles.  Any changes in the furbabies can
be worrying, though I very much hope it's nothing to worry about in
Frank's case.  We'll get started sending good-checkup purrs right
away.

Just read about the stripe on Frank's nose.  TuTu has one too that
disappears.  Since she sticks that nose into everything, I figured it
must be dirt.  MLB
