Forwarded from Joy (Yoj): I'd appreciate it if you could post this for me. I changed Internet providers to get DSL, and so far haven't figured out how to get to the newsgroups. Skeeter and I could use some purrs. Skeeter has not been acting right the past couple of days, and I noticed that she might have lost some weight. I took her to the vet this afternoon. She has lost 3 pounds in two months! She is in kidney failure. I know this situation, my Fritzie went through the beginnings of renal failure when he was declared diabetic. With medicine and supplemental fluids, he stayed with us more than 2 years, thanks to good vet care and his own dearly stubborn nature. In my experience with kidney failure a cat can be kept alive by careful diet and no stress - sometimes for a year or so. I have managed several cats with kidney failure so understaand exactly how you feel. You and Skeeter have as many purrs as we can muster. I know this is hard on you - we have a CRF cat ourselves. I know from past experience that fluid IV's can keep them going for a year or more. I remember going through this with my kitties, Frodo and Shetra -- I do think the daily fluids helped both of them feel better so I would do it if I were you. Just give her whatever she wants to eat that she enjoys and take the pleasure from each day that you have with each other.
