It's been on the UK weather news tonight that Hurricane Frances is due to
slam into Florida on Saturday.
So here are my purrs and prayers that any of my new rpca friends who might
be at risk, will be safe.

Hurricane Frances is a BIG one. My parents live on an island off the
southern-most coast of South Carolina and Dad started getting worried about
this storm last week. If it makes it way up the eastern U.S. seaboard, it
could wreak havoc for quite a while for quite a lot of people. Dad is
urging mom to pack up her Royal Doulton figurines, some of which date back
to the 1920's when her mum started collecting them. And a few other things
which are not replaceable, just in case. This storm is HUGE and powerful.
I just hope it doesn't escalate from a category 4 to a 5.

Purrs that they and all in the path stay safe. Yes, it is a big
one, and they have changed the track several times so its
unpredictable.

I'm in Maryland and still remembering Isabel from last fall, so a
bit nervous, but it's several days out and no telling if it'll come
up here. We had sooo much damage from Isabel, and Annapolis was
under water in a lot of places. Same with Alexandria, VA which is
right on the Potomac. This year I now have a generator. I decided
I'm not going without power if I can help it. Isabel knocked it out
for 4 days, but most of the time it can take weeks to have power
restored.

Cheryl, I remember Isabel. I was working at the time and we started getting
phone calls from our offices in Florida and then right up the coast,
including Baltimore and then up to Maine. Seemed like each time the phone
rang it was not a tech support call, it was one of our offices all along the
coast saying "sorry, we're shutting down, see ya later". I'd never seen
anything like it. Prayers that this one doesn't do that.

According to the National Weather Service it's still a Category 4 (of
5), and a strong Cat. 4 at that.
According to The Weather Channel there are several evacuation warnings
of various types going up along the southeast Florida coast. I don't
remember details, one location wanted to evacuate people with mobility
problems, there was another that had to do with Palm Beach County
(north of Miami). The National Weather Service forecast says Frances
won't come ashore until sometime Saturday. I certainly wouldn't want
to be in the Bahamas right now though, it looks like they're going to
take a direct hit.
Here's a 1-3 day location forecast map from the National Hurricane
Center:

My goodness, the slow Atlantic hurricane season sure has gotten
exciting in the last month or so...
Interesting bit of trivia from The Weather Channel - 75% of all Cat 4
and 5 hurricanes that strike the US hit Florida or Texas.

Purrs and thoughts for all those in the path of Frances.
I have a grand-daughter in the Caribbean (sp!) she emailed me that they are
battening down the hatches.
Please stay safe.

Purrs and safe thoughts for them as well from here. We'll get Frances,
but most probably no where nearly as strong as Florida will. Be safe,
take care of yourselves, and remember to let us know how you're doing.

Mega purrs for all in the path of the scary hurricane and for it to loose
force. Seems like it's a really bad one coming in - and with the area not
even recovered yet from the last one.
Today I had an e-mail out of Florida from Frances "Kitten" Jones - rescuer
of Spanky among others - saying she and her family, bare and furry, are
staying put (on the coast, south of Daytona). They might have moved smaller
furries like cats and dogs to a shelter further inland but they couldn't
leave the big animals - horse and pig - behind she says, so they are
boarding up the house and preparing as best they can.
I just wish for Kitten's family and everyone else, people and critters, to
be safe through this.

I live in southeast Florida, and we're battening down the hatches as I
speak (type). We're trying to persuade my only surviving grandparent
to come stay with us for a day or two -- she'll even get her own
room). We have plenty of cat food and clean litter. And if she has
to, my mom will stay up ALL NIGHT with Capt. Midnight, listening to
him shred the furniture and howl to go out, because he WILL NOT be
allowed outside during the storm.
Thanks for your good wishes. Can I send you a few hot, humid, 90
Degree F days? They should fit in my scanner. :-)

I wish you would, we have had absolutely the pits of a summer. One day of
90f and thunderstorms daily for three weeks after. It's getting so cold now
at nights that I need to put my electric blanket on.
I guess the summer is over without us getting one (again)
Although.. it has not rained now for 3 days. Sssshhh. Don't even think
about mentioning it in case the heavens open tomorrow. Which they probably
will.
However, to speak positively about our awful climate. My grass is very
green!

Me too. I have a good friend living in Melbourne in a nursing home. She is only
53 but has been made an invalid from a brain tumor. I have been trying to reach
her and can't get through.

From the West: I get scared reading about it. We are sending many purrs
and prayers that everyone will be safe. Purrs for all the furry ones that
they too will not be frightened.MLB
