Bandit's talent(?)

Recently we've had weeks of showery weather: brief sunny spells
followed by short (fifteen-thirty-minute) torrential downpours.

Now, cats are supposed to be good forecasters and my mainly-indoor to
Pericles & Snowball have shown no interest in venturing outdoors in
such soggy conditions.

But Bandit (my B&W DSH), who goes in & out freely during the day, has
developed the invariable habit of asking to exit just 5 minutes before
the next deluge, which has him soaking & scratching to come in again
within another 5 minutes. Then he sulks & gets himself dry, feeds &
meatloafs for a while, then does it all over again.

Have his signals from the Mothership become corrupted, or what?
He's certainly letting his species down at present.

Purrs to all

Won't *someone* be surprised when the Bandit Report begins showing up on the
Weather Channel?

I don't know, Nikki likes the rain. On the island, where she can go in and
out at will, she usually darts out whenever it starts to rain. OTOH,
yesterday I went out for walkies with her, and it started to rain, and she
did not like it then. Maybe it's different when you're attached to a harness
and leash.

What's the cure for that?

Sometimes steel wool works, vinegar might help too, but sometimes you have to
get new ones. I don't know where or if they sell them in the UK.

Phew.  I have both steel wool and vinegar here. Let's hope I won't need them
;-)
I'd like to ask you about your sig.   Only one what?   Cat, or you? <g>

I can't answer about Suz's sig. but the clue to Bandit's ineptitude
might be that one of his ears was recently bitten in a fight and it's
scabbed over (after I cleaned it up).
Perhaps the injury is scrambling the signals...........

Yes, could be so.  What cheeky cat dared to injure his ear?
My Kitty FC must have done her share of fighting over the years, one of her
ears is definitely fight-damaged.  Sort of frilly.

Bandit is a particulary friendly cat towards his fellow felines:
neighbourhood ladies andf neutered Toms have him sit companionably
nearby whether they like it or not!

We have no intact Toms hereabouts at present as 1 moved away & the
other lost an argument with a car. They used to pick on Bandit, who's
on the small side at 8 or 9 lbs, whereas Pericles, a 12-lb red tabby
Maine Coon, would go for them & drive them away.

B's recent bite might have been from a local intact queen who's
fretting because she's in season and can't get serviced: my lot are
extremely interested when said queens come around but of course can no
longer do the necessary.

Or he could have been a bit too friendy with my neighbour's neutered
boys who, like my Pericles, still think they're macho men. I asked
him, but he isn't telling.

Best wishes

Gordon, Bandit, Pericles & Snowball.

Poor girl! Why don't her humans have her spayed??

Joyce
Exocat - 04 Sep 2004 12:44 GMT
In every community there's always one pleasant enough but awkward soul
who just won't be told: this is ours. After 3 barekittens her hubby
declined to have more & went for his "snippage" op. So possobly from a
feeling of frustrated motherhood this lady will NOT, under no matter
how much pressure - and we neighbours, the RSPCA and Cats Protection
have all tried - have her 2 queens spayed.

Somehow she always manages to find homes for the resultant offspring,
though now with no intact toms about the flow of kits has dried up,
for this year at least.

Apart from this blind spot she's a perfectly good neighbour, so we
must be at least a little thankful........

Best wishes

Gordon & the Terrible Trio.

Me. I'd love to have another cat, but I'm charged 40$ per month per pet. I'm
low income and in a wheelchair so my options are limited.

I've heard this talked about before among Americans on the group, this
practice of charging rent for a cat to live there.  Someone explained that
it was in case the cat damaged the apartment.  It would be some kind of cat
that would cause nearly 500 dollars worth of damage a year.
I've never heard of it happening here in England.  It's one or the other,
landlords either allow pets, or they don't, and if they do, they live there
for free.
I'm low income too, I have a problem with my sight, going into hospital
(again) on Tuesday for yet another try and sort it operation.
Recently, because I became depressed, particularly because of a bereavement,
my cousin, who has a very high income, bought me a new computer and pays the
monthly fee for broadband.
It's changed my life.  Take a bow Margi..
Which is silly, because there's no way she will read this.
When she found out I was living quite frugally at the moment, she said "I
want to share my good fortune with you."  We were very close as children.
My pride got in the way a bit.  I was going to say no.  Until someone said
"It can be gracious to accept help."  and  "will she miss the money?"   No,
she won't even notice it.  So I decided to be gracious and have an all
singing all dancing computer with a constant connection to the Internet.
It's wonderful!

That can be hard to do Tweed. Good for you. She offered because she wanted
to and that is very nice. Yes, here in the U.S. Landlords get away with a
lot in certain circumstances. The pet monthly rent gets me. I did pay
through the nose in a deposit (much of which is non refundable) to have my
three fully clawed kitties but that is OK because I feel the establishment
does a lot more in other areas than I personally would expect. But truly, I
think that where cats are concerned, they get away with the alot. Of course,
I compare it with how *I* keep pets. Perhaps some people are not scrupulous
that way. I don't know.

Yup, the manager expected rug damage. I guess some cats claw at carpet seams.
My wheelchair has done some damage to the doorways but Spicey hasn't done
anything, that spotcleaner can't remove.

VERY nice lady. Tell her there are a lot of people around the world
who very much appreciate what she's doing for you. :-)

Thanks.  My uncle and aunt arrived for chicken and cat duties this evening.
Kitty is quite happy about it, but Boyfriend has decided the garden looks
extremely interesting tonight.

Your purrs and best wishes are very much appreciated.  My cousin will be
tickled pink to get them when I tell her.  She has two cats too, a lh tuxedo
called Sally and a white/orange tabby called Biscuit.
While I'm getting injected and anaesthised I'm going to think of Victor's
mom. At least what I've got isn't potentially life-threatening although
unpleasant.
