Brandy's first day

Singh - 28 Aug 2004 21:32 GMT Our little girl is finally home and adjusting to her room for the next few days, our computer room. Typing is'\\\\\-';[pppppppppppp (that's from +++++++++ Brandy, who has a major fascination with the keyboard) as I was saying, it's a task right now because she thinks I'm a tree, climbing me since we came home, crawling on my shoulders, purring like a machine and giving me itty bitty kitty kisses.
She a little charm, our Brandy, affectionate and playful, and feisty. She didn't run and hide after we let her out of the carrier, but immediately took to inspecting her new surroundings. She wanted to wrestle my arm a few moments ago. Imagine wanting to play wrasslin just an hour after coming home! She's a tough little girl, and as sweet and outgoing as was promised.
The shelter ladies were crying. They took pictures of me and Louie and our little girl and said they wished all their kitties were so wanted as our Brandy. Now she's on my lap again, waiting for a chance at the keyboard and offering me her butt, which is a very friendly gesture but the child seems unaware that the two-legs don't say hello that way.
Stosh is going ape; not violent, but in his usual Ritalin-challenged way. He's curious and wants to play, and doesn't understand that the baby needs to stay inside yet. Roxie is her usual Zen-like self and is pretty equivocal about everything.
Thanks everyone for your encouraging messages and welcomes for our little Brandy. I promise more updates, and even pictures if I can ever figure out how to get them into the machinery!
Blessed be!

She just accepts whatever comes her way, calmly and without fuss. If she gets shut in a room (accidentally or on purpose) she just finds a comfortable place to hang out and wait to be let out. Unlike Smudge, who'll bang on the door and meow loudly about how unfair it is and LET ME OUT NOW!!
Welcome to your new addition, by the way!! She sounds like she'll be a really fun and sweet companion.

Brandy is quite a handful, and I'm loving every minute of it. Roxie is definately the most meditative of our three. I see her frequently in her yoga position, contemplating the sound of a tree falling in the woods if no one is around to hear it. And then Stosh comes and says "Yo Sis! I wanna WRASSLE!" and jump her. Then Roxie will say a few impolite words.
A good buddy of mine said he'd figure Brandy and hyper-kitty Stosh will exhaust each other.
Blessed be,

Singh - 29 Aug 2004 05:12 GMT Oh, is our little Brandy a trip! She has been climbing all over me since Louie and I came back from a visit to our buddy's place, and she not only purrs but rumbles.
She's a little sneak too. Twice I had to chase her because she tried to sneak out of the room where we're holding her for the next three days (the time it usually takes for the kids to get used to someone new.) She's very slippery and can jump like an Olympic track & field star. Roxie is also that way, so perhaps we can teach them basketball. She spends much of her time on my shoulder, or sitting on the spacious balcony I call my bosom. Which she's doing now, and kneading it with her little ne52e236+3 needle claws. Did I mention that she really likes the keyboard?444444444444444489 Why the attraction for my bezongas, though, I c2an't figure `ou1`t q.1 dID i MENTION THAT SHE loves THIS KEYBOARD? The caps key too apparently, sorry, not yelling!
Brandy is being very laissez-faire about her sequestering and seems not to mind as long as she gets her average daily allowance of attention. We do not have a shortage of kitty hugs in this house so we've got them to spare. She's chasing around a whiffle golf ball, a practice ball and one of our favorite kitty toys. I can't wait to introduce her to the Elder Siblings. What a riot I anticipate!
Blessed be!

Mammals know a mammary when they see (or feel) one!
Smudge is the same way - if I'm lying back or just sitting back on the couch, she'll jump up on me and go right for the breasts, kneading away, all claws extended. (Poking little holes in me and creating little welts - making me glad I'm not seeing a doctor any time soon, as I'm sure they'd wonder about me! :)) I'm not sure what Smudge thinks it's going to produce, but she seems to enjoy it, so I put up with it.

Gosh, does it hurt or what.. Boyfriend wouldn't dream of it. Sitting within a foot of me, gazing lovingly at me is all he is brave enough to do yet. He once jumped up on my knee, but his bravery scared him and he soon jumped off. Just *toooo* dangerous just yet. I know he'll make it, because he let my brother touch him the other day, the first time ever he let anyone else touch him. If I have visitors, usually he will ask to go outside straight away, or if the weather is bad - he ain't daft - he hides behind the settee for the whole visit. He once emerged from there when he thought my friend had gone. We hadn't spoken to each other for a while as we were watching a video. The look on his face when he saw she was still there should have been captured on camera. Poor lad.

When my niece came for a visit he stayed under the bed for the three days they were here. My other two were out and about interacting with my relatives. When we went for our Sunday morning walk, Antonio did not want to go. Highly unusual since he likes the GREAT OUT and seems to enjoy our walks. When they left he came out and was all loving and cuddly.

I often wonder what some of these cats have gone through and we'll never know. Since it wasn't many months ago that Boyfriend ran away the moment I opened the kitchen door and now he is brave enough to sleep on my chair, and gently rub round my legs when he wants food I have hope he will heal. Completely. He even found himself (not his fault!) in the spare bedroom, on the bed, which is not allowed. I carried him downstairs, dangling. He didn't like it, but neither did he try to scratch or bite. It amazed me. He is so lovely and kind. Not like cats I'd known at all, they were all nasty pieces of work.
I had Kitty come to live here, and certainly she wouldn't have made me like cats any more than I did before. She's fierce and will scratch and bite, like all cats, I thought. Who wants cats?
Until BF got here. He is such a darling, he hasn't got a bad-tempered bone in his body. When he gets on his back to invite you to tickle his tummy, that's all it means. Not like Kitty, who does it purely to give a false sense of security to grab you and scratch.
Aren't I lucky that he arrived here and changed my (dog person) opinion of what cats were like. He is *so* lovely. I have to stay on my hard chair now, because he's asleep on my armchair. Disturb him? Not a chance, he looks so sleepy and comfortable. Stupid person. Hands up who says I should say "Get out of my chair, Boyfriend, I want to sit on it myself" Anyone?

I think most of us have typed on the computer standing up because there was a cat on our chairs. Most of us have found ourselves sleeping in a totally uncomfortable position because the cat has taken over the best part of the bed. Most of us have given in to those pleading eyes, silent meow, gently tapping paw as kitty has wanted whatever we were eating. We're all softies when it comes to the owners.

You might be right ;-) It isn't all that long since he was too afraid to come into the house, and he looks so peaceful and comfortable, when he's upside-downy-heading I just haven't the heart to disturb him. I'll have to demote myself to the armchair Daisy whippet ate the arm off. You can't tell really... ahem.
