It's a really small island. Not sure what they can do in the bigger scheme
of things as they are nearer to France than the UK.

Thanks! I went there, found their email address, and sent them the

Subject: "Cat shortage" in Guernsey
Hello,
I saw the story "Tomcats to boost kitten numbers" posted on the BBC
website on Thursday, 19 August, 2004. Here is the link for the story:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/guernsey/3579344.stm
I'm writing because I'm concerned about your solution to the cat
shortage, which is to bring in intact tom cats to impregnate females
on the island, in order to create a new generation of kittens for
people on the island who want pets.
My question is this: why create new kittens when there are so many
unwanted ones in overcrowded shelters in other cities nearby? Couldn't
you ask other shelters to supply yours with some of their cats and
kittens? That would accomplish two goals at once: supplying cats to
people on the island who want to adopt them, and relieving other
shelters of cats and kittens that might end up being euthanized.
It seems risky to stop encouraging people to spay and neuter. That might
very well create a new wave of overpopulation, which you have worked so
hard to eradicate! I'm sure you know how difficult it is to bring down
cat populations once they start breeding.
If you are not the agency in charge of making this decision, would you
mind forwarding my message to the right place? I would really like to
urge them NOT to bring in any intact cats for breeding, but rather, to
bring in spayed/neutered cats and kittens from other shelters that are
ready for adoption.
Thanks,

Whoops, the email address was mistyped on their website, and the
mail bounced back to me. That address should be:
catlover@feralcatssanctuary.com
In case anyone else wants to write them.
