Goodbye Rory

I just got a very sad email from my friends back home in Canada.  Seems that
their cat Rory got out and got run over by a car out in front of their
house.  They have 2 small kids and were building a deck and things got crazy
and he escaped :-(
I'm very sad about this.  Rory was a magnificent cat, about 11 years old.
He was 1/2 Maine Coon and 1/2 Japanese Bobtail.  He was at least 20 lbs of
steely grey fluffiness.  He came from the same people we got Vino from,
except that he had Maine Coon in him instead of Birman, like Vino does.  His
tail was about 3 inches long and I always used to make my friend mad by
calling him Stubby.  We got Vino from these people because we loved Rory so
much.
Rory was a one family cat.  He loved his owners, Lenore and Glenn,
unconditionally.  But it was hard for others to get close to him.  Clipping
his claws was impossible and he was banned from many vet's offices.  Lenore
found a wonderful vet who used to come to the house to treat Rory wearing
leather gloves.  About 6 years ago, he got that problem with the crystals in
the urinary tract (don't remember the name).  My friends spent $800 to save
him and never fed him anything but the best food after that.  He was very
loved.
I still remember one time, when he was only 3 months old but already as big
as a nearly full grown cat.  He had backed one of our friends into the
bathroom and would not let him out.  Matt was over 6 feet tall and not
normally scared of kittens.  But Rory could be a formidable foe.
Here are a couple of pictures of him:

It is always a tragedy when something like this happens. He was indeed a
magnificent cat and he will be waiting for his hoomins at the RB.

*hugs* to your friend and to you as well.

Please pass along condolences from here in SW Oklahoma. The RB candle
is already lit for Bonnie, so guess it will guide them both on their
journey

I live along the border, so many purrs to your friends across the most
appropriate place to send them: The Peace Bridge.

What's the Peace Bridge? I'm intrigued.

Yeah, me too!  I'm a BC girl (Vancouver and Victoria), haven't been further
east than Calgary since I was 10.  So I know nothing about the Peace Bridge
or where exactly it might be.
But I do appreciate the purrs, Singh :-)

In Niagara Falls, where the vast clouds of mist refract sunlight, the bridge
to Canada is appropriately called the Rainbow Bridge. Niagara Falls was the
last stop on the Underground Railroad before Canada and freedom.

Blessed be,

Please tell your friends we are so sorry for their loss.  Rory was a huge
kitty and beautiful, too.  Purrs from us to help him to the Bridge and to
console his family.

Rory's departure is very sad.   I hope at least his end was quick.  Purrs
for his human family that their sorrow over his loss will be comforted.

(I confess, I did have to laugh at the image of  a 6 foot tall man being
"treed" by a three month old kitten. I'll bet Matt didn't live that one down
quickly. )

Purrs, and lit candles for Rory's journey over the RB.

Awwww!  I'm sorry to hear about this.  I'm a keep your cats indoors person
unless you live in the middle of nowhere.  But yes, they do manage to escape
sometimes.  Please send your friends purrs for me.

Oh, that is really sad! It's obvious he didn't escape because of neglect,
since he was clearly adored and very well treated. Things just get away
from you at times, occasionally with tragic consequences. I'm so sorry.
He was a gorgeous cat - thanks for posting photos.
