Lump on Stomache?

I was just scratching Biskit and thought she had something in her fur on her
lower side. But it's a very hard lump not far from where she had the surgery to
fix that benign tumor thing when I first got her. I wonder if it's scar tissue
or something? It's really hard, you can move it around. She acts like it hurts.
I guess we'll go to TED tomorrow. I hope it's nothing. Has anybody ever had
scar tissue form like that?

We got in early this morning. The lump is a BB that has been in there all this
time and just now worked its way close enough to the skin to be felt.
TED said he should have xrayed her way back when he first treated her. There
was a n old wound on her side he thought looked like a little gunshot wound at
the time, but looked healed. She had that tumor / mass at that time and I think
he probably just was leaving the parts alone that weren't an immediate concern.
She never acted like it bothered her.
Anyway. I get to call at 6 and see if she's ready to come home. Says she should
be good as new and it won't be a big deal to remove.
Poor cat. It makes me feel bad for her all over again.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this, Sherry. Poor kitty, no wonder she is afraid
of the outside. She's very lucky cat to have found you. Many purrs that the
bullet (that's what a BB is, right?) can be removed without complications
and Biskit will be good as new.

Yes, a BB is a type of bullet. It looks like a very small ball
bearing.

Purrs for Biskit's recovery from Natasha and me!

BB's don't really hurt them. They just roll around in there. They only hurt if
they get lodged somewhere and get infected. I have to take BBs out of wildlife
all the time. I have a little jar full of them. It's good that he's doing an
xray to see if there are more. If they roll next to the spine or get lodged
somewhere, then it's painful and dangerous. Poor kitty. And shame on whoever
shot him.

Poor little girl! I'm always amazed at how some people can be so cruel.
Purrs and gentle headbutts being send for Biskit to feel better soon
and there not be any more BB's in her body.

One of my cats, years ago, had a movable "growth" under the skin of ones
ear.  Didn't seem to bother him, and there was no sign of a wound, so I
took him to the vet.  Turned out that was a BB, too.  The little boy
next-door had gotten a BB-gun that Christmas, and I used to notice him
poking it out a back window, and heard the compressed air "pop" every
once in while.  It never occurred to me he was shooting at anything
alive. (They had pets, too - wonder if he bagged any of them?)  At least
my neighbors were nice about paying for Miu's "surgery", since it was
their kid who had made it necessary - they didn't even try to deny it,
just called the kid in and scolded him in my presence.  (I suspect he
paid the vet bill out of his allowance, too.)

What good neighbors you had.  Unfortunately, I hear "my _____________
couldn't have done that," all too often.  I always feel that any child
is capable of just about anything and anyone who says that their kid
would never do something, is either deluding themselves or a liar.

Too true!  I think I was an exceptionally obedient kid (even when Mom
was nowhere around), but when I remember a few of my escapades......

Wow, amazing - parents who are willing to take responsibility! That's
refreshing.

Sherry - I'm sorry about poor Biskit!! Nasty litterbox dump on the creep
who shot her. BB guns *can* do harm, by the way. I knew a kid who was
permanently blinded in one eye because of a BB pellet. And even if it
doesn't kill an animal, I'm sure it *hurts* to get shot with one. No
wonder she's skittish about going out! She's smart, is what she is.

Why on God's green earth do people in town buy BB guns for their kids. Or in
the country, really. I don't get it. I really don't. DH & I used to quarrel
about that. I didn't want him shooting things. I *knew* invairably he'd end up
shooting at something besides a target. I kept telling DH it is different now
with little boys than it was when he was growing up on the farm. They don't
need pocket knives when they're 8. Or BB guns when they are 10.

Just make him watch "A Christmas Story" (note - the kid that was in that,
Peter Billingsly, is now in his 40's and is still recognized as "Ralphie"),
and fall back on the "you'll shoot your eye out, kid" ;)

On another note, that may NOT be a BB, but shot from a shotgun - they
scatter the 'pellets' and only one or two may have hit the cat.

DH and I were serving a pot roast to our best friends one night when I
bit into something hard.  Then someone else did.  There were a dozen
shotgun pellets in the pot roast.  What can you say,  "If we knew
there were pellets in it we would have bought a different one"?

'Slob hunters', that's what a lot of real gunners call them, just
annoy the heck out of me.  It was more likely a BB though.

Hhehehe

Years ago, Mom fixed a nice boneless ham for some holiday dinner, the only
kind of ham my dad really liked was Fisher's - and I bit into a PEBBLE.  No
teeth broken, no one else hit anything.  Just me.  A small irregular shaped
pebble, a bit larger than the average BB.  After dinner,   Mom fished the
label from the wrapping from the trash, taped the pebble to it and wrote a
letter explaining what happened & mailed it off to the company (this was WAY
before the internet).  The rest of the ham from that dinner was fine - we
had sandwiches for a week or two after the pebble incident, but a few weeks
later, they sent her a letter of apology, along with a coupon for a FREE
ham.  She wasn't expecting that - just wanted to let them know what had
happened.

My oldest brother opened a bag of Dorito's chips only to find a piece of the
machinery had broken off and got sealed into the bag of chips.  Looked like
a small saw metal blade.  This was also before Internet usage was common and
at any rate no one had a PC or an online connection.  He mailed it off with
a letter but I do not remember them doing anything about the incident.

The pig probably had a minor injury at some point and had a pebble
get embedded in the wound.  I once had a scrape on my ankle that
didn't want to heal all the way.  I could feel a slight, scratchy
protrusion and thought that I had a splinter, but couldn't seem to
pull it out with tweezers.  About six months later, my ankle was
itching and I scratched at it absent-mindedly.  An almost-BB-sized
pebble fell out.  It turned out to have a pointy tail like a
teardrop, and that was the scratchy bit that had been extending out
of the wound.  Once the pebble was out, the sore spot healed up
within a week.

I have never encountered a pebble in any food except for dried beans,
but I have met bone fragments on occasion, particularly in ground
meat or sausages.

Thanks, Jean. She's back home, and seems no worse for the experience. Just a
little incision. I brag on her all the time for being such a "polite" cat, but
she barreled out of that carrier complaining and ran straight to the food bowl.
So that's a good sign.

Hi Sherry, Henri had a lump like this but I cant't remember if it was after
he had
his back drained in two places or not, however I had one of my foster
workers
who was also a part time vets assistant to check it out for me which she did
a
couple of times, and she said quote*if it moves its ok, if it immovable that
means its attached and its not ok* It never seemed to affect Henri, although
he's RB now it was his kidney's that caused his death, hope it helps but you
can still check it out, to be sure  Good Luck    Jean.P.
