Well, the little goofball has done it again. He was cruising around
the house a lot, as he often does in the evening. He usually does a
whole King of the Beasts number, patrolling all over, inspecting the
basement, and often letting out some bloodcurdling yowls to warn the
bad outside kitties to stay away from his crib. One minute, he was in
and out of the bathroom with me-- the next he was downstairs, and had
something . . .odd . . . hanging out of his mouth. Eeeeewwwwwwww!

All I could see were little stringy, stiff legs-- I couldn't even tell
at first if it was mammal or insect. Eeeeeewwwwww !!! Eventually he
tossed his head, and launched the thing into the air-- when it landed,
I could see it was a dead little mouse.

Stinky was so excited, he didn't know what to do next-- and I'm afraid
when this happens, despite my horror, I usually crack up laughing at
his confused demeanor. He either was not positive it was quite dead
yet, or he was not ready to stop playing with the perfect cool cat
toy, so he pawed at it, tossed it, and flipped it some more. He was
not perturbed at all by my hovering around trying to relieve him of
his prey (EEEEEWWWW!!), but indicated in every possible way that he
was completely happy for me to share in this joyous occasion. Indeed,
he picked up the wretched little thing again, and made straight for my
shoes (Oh no, Stinky, please . . .") and plopped it right into one,
then proceeded to rub me and tell me all about it.

I grabbed some paper towels, and snatched the deceased up with it, and
disposed of it-- the poor cat was absolutely bereft that it had
disappeared, and sniffed furiously at its last known location. I
quickly slipped a fur mouse in there-- those are his absolute favorite
toys-- but to no avail. He will have none of it. He briefly regained
interest when I flipped it into the air -- but no. He is still staring
disconsolately at the spot where the mouse was last seen. I expect he
will be doing that all night. Except when he takes a break to pad over
to me, and complain.

Awwww.... poor baby! He misses his prey! Ours catch a lot of earthworms
(I have no idea how they do that, since their enclosure has a wooden
floor), roaches, and a few unlucky lizzards and geckos. No mice yet, but
we probably don't have any since we have a couple of neighborhood cats
who patrol the garden. I usually take their prey away, especially if
it's a little live gecko. They're catching up though, and they start
chewing the moment they see me walking towards them. :)

Which he did indeed do-- until a fly buzzed past him.  Wow, it's a
real jackpot night!  So he was after the bug, until he nabbed it--
which he *always* does.  And nothing I could do to get this away from
him.  Anyway, he's a lot less restless for the moment. ;)

I've done this quite a few times with my old mouser cat. Once, I picked the
mouse up then it came back to life. The mouse and I both went "EEEEEEEEK!" in
unison. I was so startled that I tossed the mouse up in the air with such force
that he almost hit the ceiling. Then I felt bad that I might have hurt him by
tossing him. I quickly grabbed him and set him free outside. After that my cat
would hide his prizes behind this silk ficus tree in my breakfast room. When
the maid finally discovered his stash one day I heard a loud "Dios mio!" To
which my cat replied "Meow?"

LOL How dare you meowmie! Actually, I think Shamrock would be like
this if he ever finds a real mousie. He's like this with bugs if he
plays with a spider too long for my comfort level and I end up
having to dispose of it before he's done playing.
