hi all,
two things,
first, the other day i watched a kitten and baby ferret
playing tail-catching-pouncing games, *awww*
and second, something rather strange has happened to
two cats near where i live, they have had small patches
shaved, and either been injected or had blood taken.
One of the people whose cat had this happen to it told
me of it, saying it sounds like 'black magic stuff'...
but the kind of people who want cat blood for those
purposes usually don't carefully shave a small area
and use syringes... *grimaces*
they'll be talking to the local police and RSPCA
to let them know what's happened to their cats.
anyone got any theories as to WTF's going on?
these cats had *not* been treated by vets recently,
etc, the shaved patches with small scab as if pricked
turned up quite mysteriously, one on the cat's 'arm',
and one just under the jaw...
...somewhat worrying and odd...
love,
Morgan

You don't suppose someone is "practicing"? Wierd. Are the cats pets? I'd
sure have them tested for diseases now.

perhaps there is aless sinister explanation...
If the cats are "roamers" perhaps someone else believes that they are the
owners and took them to the vet to get some sort of treatment?

That's what I thought. If my Boyfriend cat belongs elsewhere his owners
will be surprised that I had him neutered recently.

Ok, thats *weird*
AS Iunderstand it, cats don't have blood types, so if a cat needed blood
urgently and there was no official donors, a random cat may be "catnapped"
and said to be "stray' so as to get access to the blood, which would explain
the shaving on the leg, but on the chin? Thats bizarre.
I hope you solve the mystery, coz its going to drive me nuts now.

*nods* - i probably will never know,
they're in my general area, but i don't know them..
the owner of the on shaved at the jaw just happened to mention it when our
big ginger Scilly cat nuzzled up legwise.... they were there doing suverying
type stuff,
i doubt i'll get to find out any more info on it.. =|
*purrs for the shaved kitties...*
there have been no noticable ill effects physical healthwise,
but psychologically, they's been traumatised...
that's all i know..
as you say, arms are usual for IV stuff,
but jawline? *shrugs*
hope they'll be well.

It wouldn't be something like [that skin fungus that makes round bare
patches] - roundworm (?) is it?

about Re: kittens and ferrets / weird happenings:

Could be. If anyone else owned Boyfriend they might wonder where his
"nuptials" had gone after I took him for the snip recently.

I used to live in Southwick near Trowbridge, the county town of
Wiltshire. I hope you solve the mystery.

The spots could have been abscesses from bite wounds. This would explain the
locations. When we had indoor/outdoor cats, they ocassionally would get an
abscess from a bite from another cat. The hair typically fell out around
the center. Under the scab could be an infection with a lot of puss.
Generally, the cats were treated with an antibiotic and we treated the wound
with, I believe, hydrogen pyroxide and several times a day a warm, steamy
cloth to draw out the infection, keep it clean, and keep it open so that it
could drain. If the abscess heals on the outside first, it will trap the
infection inside.
