I have a built-in, brick planter in my front hallway. For several years
I have used it as a sort of bench...I should admit that Hobbes has used
it as a bed...because when Hobbes was a kitten he thought it made a
great litterbox if there was any dirt in it. This week it has begun
getting cooler at night and might even go as low as 48 F this weekend so
I suspected that my outside herb garden would probably die soon. So
while I could still get them, I bought some herbs to plant in the inside
planter box. I cleaned out all the old dirt, put in new and planted
sage, basil, thyme, and oregano. Hobbes had checked out the herbs while
they were still in their flat and decided they didn't deserve his
attention. Lacey had watched the proceedings but wasn't interested in
the plants. Selena was asleep in the dining room but woke up when I
went to the kitchen to clean my water mister and get water for the now
planted herbs. A few minutes later I went back to the hallway to water
my new herb garden and found Selena on the planter tasting the sage.
She has decided that I planted these herbs just for her. I can't get her
to leave! She keeps coming back to taste a few more leaves. As soon as I
determined that none of these herbs were toxic to cats I went in and
talked to her as she munched her way down the planter box, tasting each
plant. She seems to prefer the taste of the sage but also likes the
smell of the basil. I've frequently told her that I believed she was my
familiar, I think maybe she's a healer as well.

Cats are so funny that way!! I prefer sage myself :)
I've often thought of buying some "greens" for Persia, but I wondered if it
would make her take interest in my house plants. She has never shown any
interest before, and I know some plants (particularly lily varieties) are
toxic to cats.
At least you don't have to wonder how to use up all the sage this Winter!

I have grass (wheat) in a pot for the cats, and they never even look at my
house plants, though they love the grass. Some cats can be allergic to
wheat, so you might try oat grass. Here, you can buy ready-grown wheat
shoots in a little pot, or you can buy wheat or oat seeds in a health shop
or even some pet shops.

I saw some pots of "cat greens" at PetCo when I was there buying food and
litter for Persia a couple of weeks ago. They have it growing it small
pots. I have no idea what kind of grass this is; it just looks like grass!
Persia doesn't seem to be overly sensitive to anything. Nor does she pay
attention to my house plants.
My (RB) dog used to eat grass; so do my parakeets. So, do you think it's
okay to get Persia some of the potted grass to munch on?

Pea loves that cat grass. Problem is, the little stinker isn't content to
just nibble on it - he expects me to pinch it off and feed it to him, blade
by blade!

Sorry for the herbs, but glad that Selena likes them,

Last spring I had some herb and salad plants sitting out on my enclosed
porch waiting to be planted out as soon as it was warm enough. One morning
Pea asked to be let out on the porch. I looked out on him after a while and
caught him helping himself to the "salad bar." Who would've imagined that a
cat would like nasturtium?
