I bought a set of glasses and Shamrock took over the box. He marked
it all up with his face scents and re-marks it every time Bonnie
tries to get in it. She got in.  Once.  Only once. Shamrock doesn't
like to share. ;)

That box is 1/2 the size of a box that Lizzie crawled into & curled up in
for a nap.  Soooo cute to see her nose peeping out of it.  Of course it's
usually occupied by the kittens playing "king of the box" ;)

Another box lover. Nikki is the Official Box Inspector around here. All
boxes must be approved by her (and she does approve - always. Even if she
can hardly fit into the box).

Boxes are da bomb.  Stinky has his own permanent box, with crumpled up
tissue paper in it.  But every box has to be sat in.

For some kitties, the fact that they can hardly fit seems to make the
box even more attractive.  Prissy had a phase where she insisted on
meatloafing in a particularly narrow shoebox, even though at first her
sides stuck all out of the box when she did it.  Eventually the box
got all bent outwards on the sides.

I've also noticed there are Box Rules in households with cat and dog
playmate. It seems to be understood fully by both species.

The party of the first part, hereinafter called Dog, may chase the party
of the second part, hereinafter called Cat, throughout all areas except
as mentioned. If Dog tags Cat, they may wrestle, although the output is
not predetermined and Dog undertakes the activity at Dog's risk.

If, during the course of the chase, Cat goes into any structure that can
be construed as Box, including, for example, the bottom of a soft drink
can carton cut almost to the bottom, Cat becomes immune to tag. An
invisible wall projects upwards to the ceiling from the vertical edges
of Box. Dog may communicate with Cat through these walls, as long as Dog
does not touch Cat.

Me too!  :)  In my house, and even in the apt I used to live in,
the safe place was the kitchen. It seemed to have the same rules as
Howard's box, because no matter who was chasing who, when the
chasee runs into the kitchen, the chaser stops at the threshold.
Shadow used that rule to his advantage many many times because he
hated being chased. :)

Well, now you've gotten me in a tub of hot water. Hobbes says I'm not a
proper cat slave since I've never brought home a nice box like the one
Shamrock has nor set it up properly for him to sleep in.  As a matter of
fact, I was thinking of giving him such a box recently since he enjoyed
sleeping in my empty, open suitcase recently.  But you see, now it won't
be a nice gift from Meowmy but rather a proper response from a slave to
her master.

Ah, the obligatory box. Gotcha. lol After he took over that box I
thought to myself "self, you could make a box that looks prettier
than that and it would fit the decor better." Then self got wise
and realized a made box wouldn't be as much fun as a found box and
self scrapped the idea.

Totally.  It's the reason I won't spend $$$$ on a fancy cat bed for
Stinky (although I think it would be really cute).  Why bother when a
cardboard box charms him like magic?

Bartleby, my 15 lbs guy, always tries to squeeze himself into small boxes.
My cats take turns sitting in a new box, it seems to go in the pecking
order, too.  Antonio likes to eat cardboard, so he spends more time chewing
the sides than sitting in it.  I don't think he injests it, he just shreds
cardboard and paper by pulling on it with his teeth.  It's weird.

Hi O J,

Thank you for the kind comments about my kitty-man...I also think he's quite
gorgeous, and I'm pretty sure he also thinks this himself. :)

And, usually he's curled up a little more when he's in "his box", but this
time he had his head sticking out one end and his bum sticking out the
other, so I had to grab a picture of it.

I'm glad I've discovered this group, it's become an addiction to me!

Welcome!  This is the friendliest group on USENET, or so I think.  Feel
comfortable, draw up a chair and tell us all about yourself and your
fuzzy owners.

Welcome!! That's hysterical. I also love the shoe shot. Kind of goes with
that other thread of the wierd things cats will lay on. What are your
kitties names? (I saw another in the background.) Siblings?

My handsome little man is Casey (by little, I mean smaller than me, cause
he's not really little).

The other cat (tortie-calico), her name would be Randa, and she is my
roommate's cat.

They are not siblings. My Casey is just over 17 months old. Randa is approx.
4 years old.

Cheers,
Carrie

I know.  I always call Stinky "the little goofball"  but he's not a
small cat.  I guess I do mean smaller than me. ;)

OOPS, I forgot to ask.  Casey is so handsome and your pictures are
awesome, may I add them to my Webshot's gallery?  They'll only go on my
screen saver, won't be published.

Appreciatively,

If you want my beautiful kitty on your screensaver, then go ahead. :)

I don't mind at all.

He reminds me so much of my late Marley cat. Same coloring, same
tummy.  :)  Great picture!

Hi Cheryl,

I love that tummy! It's so rubbable, but Casey doesn't always understand why
mommy has to rub his belly when he shows it, he sometimes likes to
rabbit-kick me, but it's ok, it's worth it for that cute belly.

Thanks for your welcome.

Cheers,
Carrie

Two of the three cats I currently live with *love* tummy rubs.

What a cute picture. He's beautiful! And speaking of uncomfortable sleeping
positions... I can't imagine being comfortable with my chin and hand hanging
over the edge of a box.

Welcome! What's your silly boy's name, by the way?

I can't imagine being comfortable in that position either, but, there's a
lot of positions he sleeps in that I can't imagine to be comfortable, but
hey, I'm not a cat! :)

My little man's name is Casey.

Carrie

It's not his flying pig acutally, it's my roommates, it's one of our things
that we give away at our company. But Casey likes to play with it sometimes.
:)

Thanks for your welcome, I'm very happy to be here. :)

He's a beautiful fellow. My Katie's sitting in my lap right now and
seems quite taken with him. They both have very similar colouring.

Thank you for the sweet commens about my little man, I also think he's quite
beautiful, and if I were a cat, I think I'd be quite taken with him
too.....mind you...as a hoomin, I think I'm probably more taken with him
then I would be as a cat. :)

Thanks for your welcome!

Cheers,
Carrie
