I'm hoping Santa will get me a digital camera. :-) Digital cameras are the best! I got this one for my anniversary. It's just too cool to snap a picture and 5 minutes later have it up on a web site.

Felix, as an adult, is about 14 lb. We got him at about age 2 [he's a shelter adoptee], and he kept growing for a while after that [they do not make cat harnesses big enough for him. I have to go to the d*g section to get a harness for him].

Here's the story...
DH and I had been shopping at Walmart and as we were leaving we saw a lady putting a dish of water into a huge cardboard box. Naturally we had to go investigate. Inside was a male kitten, orange stripey, about 8 or 10 weeks old, covered in fleas and dehydrated from the 90+ degree weather. Someone had almost run him over in Walmart's parking lot and brought him in to the "greeter" there.
We had three females in residence and our experience with adding a male, Percy, was not very good (there was constant fighting and upset before he went to the RB), so we didn't feel we could keep him. However, we have a real good relationship with the ladies who run "SunSmart" the pet rescue operation run out of PetSmart (where we adopted Percy). They don't normally take in strays, but since they knew us (and since we donate cash almost weekly) they agreed to take him.
While we were there a mother and daughter brought in Sammy and her brother and sister (telling their tall tale about the "stray" in their closet), but SunSmart refused to take the kittens (they did, however, offer to help with getting low-cost neutering of the mom, cat which the idiots refused). At the same time another man brought in four 2 WEEK OLD KITTENS!!! They were refused also (and all of them were very put out that they DID take the little orange stripey we brought in).
They were told to take the kittens to the local SPCA but the daughter (teen) was all distraught about the possibility of the kittens being PTS (DUH - what did you think would happen during kitten season when you allow your cat to breed but don't want to be bothered with raising kittens!!??).
I told them that the kittens, being cute and healthy, would probably not be PTS, they would probably be adopted, BUT some other cat would have to be PTS to make room for the kittens. Like idiots, this seemed to make them feel better about bringing them to the SPCA so they went away happy. Before they left, though, I made the "mistake" of petting Sammy and she licked me with her little sand-paper tongue. The rest is history.

Felix pretty much ignores Avery [there've been a few attempted pounces, but pretty half-hearted ones, apparently more in play than any serious predatory intent], and Avery teases Felix. :-)

Well, sometimes a stray really does have kittens in the closet. After all, I have LB and her daughter Sammy because I let LB inside during a storm. My neighbor called LB the little bitty pregnant kitty. Anyway, LB had her babies in the bedroom closet. To make a long story shorter, by the time the kittens were old enough to go to homes I had been convinced keep LB and Sammy

Our rescue group took in a cat a few years ago. She'd sneaked into someone's house when the back door was open, and had her kittens in the wardrobe. These people were NOT cat people, they were horrified by her, and scared, although they certainly didn't want any harm to come to her or her kittens.
We named the mother cat 'Narnia' and the kittens were named Prince Caspian, Lucy etc.

I was just really mad at these people at the time and didn't want to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Yep, she is absolutely the most gorgeous cat I've ever seen - what little I see of her! LOL Not very many people get to see her up close, she spends most of her time hiding (don's ask me why - she is the most pampered cat on the planet and always has been since we got her at 5-weeks-old five years ago).

KellyH - 15 Aug 2004 06:08 GMT > Sammy finally laid down on her favorite chair for a few minutes to get some > rest... > > http://www.possibleplaces.com/sammy5/ She looks kind of like my foster kitten, Biscotti. http://www.snittens.com/biscotti1.jpg BTW, Biscotti is much bigger than that now. I should take a new picture of her. She's about 12-13 weeks and must have some MC in her. It's hard to trim nails with those tufts between the toes! I had Biscotti *and still have her brothers) at my house for a couple weeks, she was very shy, then once I thought she was friendly enough, I took her to the shelter to be adopted. She was, but right after she got to the shelter, she came down with conjunctivitis. The adopters wanted to wait until the vet saw her again the next week before taking her home. Then, her brothers started having diarrhea, so I had their stool sample tested. It showed giardia. So, we had to treat Biscotti too. Then when it was time for the stools to be retested, they told me Biscotti had giardia, but the boys didn't. That made no sense because Biscotti has never had diarrhea. I guess she could be a carrier. And in the meantime, she's come down with a URI. The adopters have to wait even longer now to take her home. Tonight, I saw Biscotti sitting in her cage at the shelter, looking sad. So I kidnapped her. She's in my downstairs bathroom now. She is the sweetest kitten, and if she wasn't already adopted I would be soooo tempted to keep her!
