It's my little girl's birthday. I can't believe she's been with me for so long! As my sister said this summer, she might as well be 5 years old, she has retained her kittenish looks all her life. I made a little album of her birthday activities on webshots: http://community.webshots.com/album/175255882gkVgYy Right now, she and Frank are zonked out on catnip. Unfortunately Frank is a mean drunk and always attacks Nikki when he's on catnip, so I don't give it to them that often. However, Nikki quite seems to enjoy tussling with him. I bought her a toy with a pouch of catnip attached, and the nip seems to be very potent stuff, since they practically ripped the package out of my hands. I filled the toy with nip, but of course that was only good for about 5 seconds. She sat and purred her very loud, trilling purr through it all. This means thank you all very much for your kind wishes (she might have said fishies, I'm not sure). Birthdays are tricky events. I'm so happy that my furkids have lived so long, but every birthday brings us closer to the inevitable. With all the sad news on rpca lately, I can't avoid thinking, "how long will they last?" Frank will be 17 in November (I hope). Nikki is doing great in spite of her hyperthyroidism and asthma. Her kidney, liver and blood glucose values were excellent this spring - the vet said they were better than many a younger cat's. She has an asthma attack about once a day, and it looks horrible, but she doesn't seem very bothered by them. I figure that as long as they only last about 2 minutes per day, her quality of life is fine. I just hope I'll have the courage to do the right thing for her one day. Sorry to be so morbid. Yeah, I finally had to bite the bullet and switch over. But you have a slow connection, don't you? Doesn't it take ages for the pictures to load? Sometimes it takes a long time for me with Webshots, even though I have dsl. Nikki says thanks for the compliment. I've got a new modem which at least lets me stay connected though. Much improved. I've figured out a way to view pictures. I download all the messages in my NG's first, then I go to picture sites and view them in between reading messages. So I'll read a few messages, then click on the other window and look at the picture, then click for the next picture and go back to read a few messages while it downloads. Been working quite well for me :-) I would love nothing more than DSL, but while it's available in Bangkok for only $40/month, here where I live it still costs an outrageous $300/month.
