I am trying to find a polar fleece type fabric with a cat design on it to
make a throw for my mom's bed. She lives in a nursing home, so the fabric
has to take a LOT of washing.  I thought I saw one at a local fabric store,
but it wasn't available the next time I went in. (just my luck!)  I can find
plenty of My Kitty prints, but I don't think that they are appropriate for
an 81 yr old's bed. <G>

Any help would be appreciated!

Patti, Wal Mart carries one that isn't a child print. It is in earth tones;
lots of tans and browns and I think you'd like it for a throw.

Thanks to all for the suggestions! I have checked JoAnn's and Walmart, but
they didn't have anything. :( I have a couple other places to check, thanks
to you, and I will let you know what I find!

Take care,

You must check "the store we love to hate" (in quilter's speak) AKA
Jo-Ann's

How come you love to hate it? Because their fabrics are ugly? (I usually
think they are, anyway.)

I haven't had the courage to visit the new JoAnn's here, yet, because it
is so huge.  I'm afraid I'd spend a fortune on fabrics and not have
anything to use it for.

Remind us both to never go to the fabric store together. We'd drag each other
to hell. I love fabric, I love colors. I am constantly buying fabric I have no
use for. A few weeks ago, I used most of it up making "purr pads" for the
shelter cats. (Just quilt batting laced with catnip in between 2-ft. squares or
so). The shelter cats have purr pads in the most beautiful colors you ever saw,
and I just try not to remember how much I spent on it.

Hi Sherry,
I work for a furniture store, and we quite regularly give away discontinued
fabric samples - it is either that or throw them away. They are usually 1 to
2 ft. square, but some are a bit larger. They would make great purr pads!
Have fun!

Ooh, ooh, ooh, which chain do you work for and who would I talk to, to
get purr pad fabric?  It would be a great project for Mandy and/or Rob
to work on when needing entertainment.  Or me for that matter, when
they're occupied with the PS/2.

Hi Pam,
I work for Adirondack Furniture in Central NY, but I would think most
furniture stores would give the old fabrics to you. The furniture
manufacturers that come to mind right off are Clayton Marcus, LaZBoy,
Flexsteel, Hickory Hill, Marshfield (http://www.marshfieldfurniture.com/
oooh - love their fabrics!)

Also, some of the furniture companies pack their furniture using foam (not
styrofoam) and I have used that in cat beds. Plus, the boxes that come from
there are HUGE! Lovely cat towers and such.

Good luck  and have fun!

That *would* be perfect! All those purr pads in designer fabrics! I'm going to
check on that :-)

Oh, Sherry, how sweet of you.  Celeste and I went last week to socialize at
the humane society -- the cat room was so warm and not much circulation
:o( -- all of the cats were sitting on the polyester and warmer type
fabrics; I yanked them all and put in cotton towels instead.   Managed to
talk to the person tending the cages who had no idea that the previous
fabrics were sooo hot for the kitties.

See, Christine, you "get it." So many people don't get it! Cats *love* certain
fabrics, and they  love clean, soft things. You can tell when you put the pads
in the cages. Most of them immediately start kneading them and purring. (well,
catnip doesn't hurt either. But even when I don't use catnip, they knead)
