Well, Jazz and I are happily ensconced in our family room surrounded by 6
tvs, all connected to digital cable watching the Olympics. This year NBC and
its affiliates are airing different things on different channels. Right now
we are watching Boxing on the largest tv, women's field hockey on one small
tv and the news on another small tv cause Telemundo is currently airing a
soccer game that was on this morning. We will hunker down for the next 2
weeks and only surface to eat and go to the potty. We are in sports heaven!

I am sooooo jealous!  I love the Olympics and have watched them all my life.
But they are not showing them here in Thailand.  Well, they are on the Thai
channel but it's only a couple hours a day and all the commentary is Thai
and it's pretty much useless.  On our digital satellite TV, we have 4 sports
channels that show nothing but sports 24/7 and not *one* of them is showing
any Olympics.  I'm so mad.  This will be the last Olympics I miss, I will
not stay here until the next one, that is for sure....grumble, grumble,
grumble.... :-(

One of my continuing fantasies is having a cat get loose on the floor --
and the equipment -- during gymnastics.

Precisely why I didn't watch any television the two years we lived in
Bangkok :)

That would be hiliarious, especially during the floor exercises!  Oh look,
there's a human who wants to play! Let's trip him/her! :)

Floor exercise -- or rhythmic gymnastics.

I swore Clifford had his own way of expressing disdain for the Olympics.
One of his stnndard routines, saying HARRUMPH to the balance beam, was
to go upstairs by hanging from the underside of the stair railing. If he
felt he was being watched, he would stop, stretch out his head, and give
what I can only describe as a feline version of an utterly demented Mary
Lou Retton grin.

Is there any hope that you have pictures of this? :-)

To my great regret, no.

Well that's just the thing.  They have digital satellite TV here now, we pay
$40/month for it and there's at least 30 English channels including 4 sports
channels.  And none of them ever show the Olympics!  Who wants to watch the
world snooker championships???  Sheesh!

I don't understand Spanish, but I'm really getting a kick out of
watching the soccer matches on Telemundo (Telemundo is a
Spanish-language TV network in the US; I'm not sure that they're owned
by NBC though). You may have heard the play-by-play guy, whose name I
don't remember -  he's the guy who yells
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!! and
takes literally minutes to say the word!

Did anyone else get a bit of a creepy feeling during the lighting of
the cauldron, with that hinged arm leaning over so the fellow could
light it. It put me in mind of someone looking at a bug under a
microscope (or maybe a Farside cartoon)

(my favorite torch lighting was the one with the archer at the
Barcelona games)

The archer was our favorite torch lighting, too.  Rob and the kids
decided that the torch was a big blunt (aka doobie, roach, joint,
marijuana cigarette) and the flame a bigger one.  They were cracking up
and rolling around laughing about it and the woman with the lit up
belly.  No one ever said my family was "cooth."
