Dear Martha is a curious kitty. A tortie, she has a dark face with
dark whiskers to match. All except one, which is snow white. And not
to be outdone, her new little adopted sister Sophie has a gorgeous
shiny all-black (Kiwi rugby fans pls note!) coat, save for two tiny
patches of white on her back and flank. Only about 2 or 3 hairs each,
but again, pure white - you have to be very close to her to even see
them. I say, "Vive la difference!" Do any of your kitties have
colouration quirks along these lines???

At first glance, Weeble is all-black, but he has 2 pure white hairs on his
throat, and a patch of about 5 on his right elbow - not to mention the
bunches you can't see on his belly: one near his left 'armpit' and between
his back legs.

A couple of my white cats hat tiny patches of black fur on the top of
their heads, but they disappeared as the cat matured.

My white Mikey had three black stripes on his head as a tiny kitten,
but they faded until when he was full-grown they were entirely gone.

My white cat, Fuzzbox, had grey markings in the shape of a W between his
ears. They faded completely by the time he was about nine months old.

Speckles is like that too. All black whiskers but one. It gives
her a slightly "cockeyed" look!!!

Fez and Rufous (orange and white) have all white whiskers, except for
one. In both of them, the top whisker closest to the nose on their right
side is black! I pointed that out to TED yesterday and she was very
surprised about it. They are littermates after all... :)

I had a calico that had all white whiskers - even though 1/4 of her face
was black - but upon closer inspection, one whisker in the black area was
black - all the rest were white!

Sheba, tortie, has only two primary whiskers, one on each side, that
are snow white. But sometimes she has only one, as they molt at
different times. Right now one is growing back in and only half size.
The other whiskers are black. the white ones give her a peculiar look,
making me think of Fu manchu or someething. Many years ago I used to
have an all-black cat except for 5 white hairs on the very tip of her
tail.

Vino is kind of a diluted orange which fades gradually to cream under the
chin and on the tummy. His whiskers are cream, except one whisker which is
cream on the front and dark on the back. It really stands out, especially
when looking at him from behind.
Also, Vino's paw pads, nose and mouth are all pink, except that the older he
gets, the more dark spots he's getting on his lips. He's 6 now, so I wonder
how dark his mouth will be in a few more years?

Oh, Yoda has those mouth freckles. Lentigo? Is that the word? Or something like
that. Yo isn't really orange, he's more like, beige or cream, but I hear orange
cats usually get them. I was glad to find out they're perfectly normal and
benign.

Oh, I never even considered the possibility that they could be a problem.
I'm glad to hear that they are ok though. I always figured they were like
age spots on the back of people's hands.

My tortie cat Toffee has all black whiskers except one. It bugs my DH for
some reason. I think it's cute.

I think a solitary white whisker shows uniqueness, a good thing in cat
or a human. Martha's dark and light tortie blotches are all over the
place, which gives her a permanent smirk. When our vet first saw her,
he said, "Ah. An asymmetrical cat!"
