Hi,
I post/read on rpch+b mostly and just found out that this ng exists! I have
been lurking for a while and enjoy the more pleasant exchange of cat stories
and cute things.
I have 6 cats myself and also volunteer and foster for a local shelter.
I wanted to share with you pictures of a kitty that came in recently at the
shelter. He has the most unusual front paws I've ever seen. Take a look:

It almost looks like he is evolving and is on his way to cats developing
opposable thumbs! Anyone ever seen paws like that?

I've never seen anything like it. Sounds dangerous to me... :)

OMG! He does look like he's got thumbs. I've seen lots of polys, but I've never
seen one like Lucky.

Those look like *hands*. Does he use the "thumbs"? :-)

Well, Lucky is in the office at the shelter, since he's too big for a cage.
We keep the canned food on the shelves in there. So far, he hasn't figured
out how to pop the tops. When he walks his thumbs kind of slide back, I
don't know if they are opposable or not. I'll have to do some further
examinations.

Wow, that is scary. Sorry, but I wouldn't want him in my house. He would
render me unnecessary. ;o)

Oh, just think what a help he could be. He could open all those cat food cans,
change the litterbox...oh, wait. That *would* render us unnecessary.

Are any of those claws actually opposable? One of John's fosters was
poly who actually had opposable claws on his front paws - the vet had
never seen anything quite like it! The little begger could climb up
the inside of his carry cage and hang from the top before he was ten
weeks old! :P

You need paws like that to pilot the mother ship properly. You have
obviously been specially chosen as a care-giver to a very special cat.
Welcome Kelly!! It's nice to meet you. We look forward to sharing
this newsgroup with you.

Welcome to the group, Kelly! We're owned by 5 cats, Omar, Oreo, Midnight,
Robin & Tucker. My daughter and I help socialize kitties at the humane
society and another rescue group. This kitty is amazing! He looks like a
sweetheart; hope he finds a great home.

Whoa! I've never seen anything like that. He's a beautiful kitty,
though.
Welcome to rpca - I am Krista in south Georgia USA. I have recently
been enslaved by former stray Tallulah and her 22-day-old kitten,
Hubert. We also have two office cats, Ozzy and Tiger. I look forward
to reading all about your kitties!
