I know a lot of you out there have the Drinkwell pet fountains, and I was
wondering if any of you have had any success in running them through the
dishwasher??
I have three drinkwells in three different areas of the house, and cleaning
them is very time consuming as barely one will fit in the kitchen sink. My
dishwasher has a 'gentle' cycle for china/crystal, plus a rinse only cycle.
I was wondering if I got them all in there (after removing the pumps from
the base, which I do when I clean them anyway), used only a smidgen of
dishwasher detergent (cascade liquid - don't like the powders as sometimes
they don't dissolve completely & you get chunks on your dishes, same with
laundry detergent), along with a few drips of regular dish soap (helps to
cut the grease, but then you get extra suds on the dishes in there) - and
then an extra rinse cycle to get ALL the soap off. Also - I don't have Jet
Dry in the dispenser - just plain white distilled vinegar (helps to soften
the Indiana hard water, so less spots on the dishes, not that I have fine
china or crystal anyway).
Will I be the first one here to try this?... or have others blazed the trail
before me?

I can't see why not -- they just should be thoroughly rinsed.
Only problem might be the temperature of your water.
Could warp the plastic.

We clean our petmate drinking fountain in the dishwasher all the time.
No problems at all.
