For once, I'm actually on-topic. :-)

A friend of mine in Newcastle, Australia, has two problems: very
little money and a suddenly in-heat/possibly pregnant cat [the owner
honestly believed that the cat was too young at ca. three months for
this and thought she had more time]. Does anyone know of either a vet
in that area who'll do the spay [either right away or after kittens
are weaned is up in the air] and take installment payments or a
low-cost spay/neuter program in that area that can help?

Thanks!

I"m not in Newcastle (your friend would know where Wollongong is) but I
believe the Cat Protection Society is state-wide at least, and does offer
discounts on spay/neutering for those recieving government benefits
(unemployement, disability, old age pension etc etc and/or financial
difficulty. They usually have an agreement wth a clinic in that area - it
may not be *your* clinic, but they'll give you a voucher that reduces the
cost of the spay/neuter to about half the regular cost. Don't bother with
the RSPCA, thats not what they do here (not disparaging the RSPCA, but they
have a different focus than the Cat Protection Society)

Also, just ask the vet in question if they take split payments. Some won't,
but you'd be surprised at those who will. My local one doesn't, but the one
in town will bill my credit card at the end of the month over 6 months if I
agree to direct debit. Ring around and make the arrangement before you bring
in the cat, and you'll find that most people are reasonable about making
arrangements to pay.

Here are their details. If they don't cover the Newcastle area, I'm sure
they will know an organisation that does:
