Signs I'm a slave

JoJo - 14 Jul 2004 01:21 GMT Never though it could happen, but yep, now I'm a certified cat slave, have been for a while, but it just sunk in. The following main sign? I permit Tiny Shorty to suckle on my earlobe.
First I would like to point out that he was an orphan, While I was fostering him, I got another litter to foster, and Tia (who is now a forever) started suckling my earlobe. Tiny Shorty took interest and started doing the same thing. I figured it was comforting for them (although at times I had to hide my head under covers as Tia's siblings would try to get in there too). Anyway, teenage years, they aren't interested much in mommy anymore, so I thought they both outgrew it.
About a month ago I was out of town for a week for business meeting. I come back, the first two mornings he's attached to my earlobe. Ok, figured it was his way of saying welcme back, he missed me.
This month sometime he turns one year old. Yesterday morning and this morning I awake with him attached to my earlobe. Now this is where it hits me that I'm a slave - I'm in the bathroom, using the facilities. He comes in and does the leg rub, then stretches front paws up, I lean down to see what he wants, thought maybe he'd try to jump up on my back, which he sometimes does. Nope, roots thru my hair for my earlobe and starts trying to suckle. Now instead of getting up off the commode, I pick him up on my lap and continue to let him suckle until my butt got sore.
Yep, I'm a definite slave. When did this happen? How did this happen? And how weird am I to let the cat sit on my lap while I'm on the facilities????? Is it time to get locked up in the looney bin? Please tell me I am not alone!

:-). He also tends to come check out what I'm up to when I'm in the tub [you'd think after 9 years, he'd understand :-)].

JPHobbs - 14 Jul 2004 06:23 GMT As for that, Henri loved slipping into the tub with me, but these days I use the shower mostly and my present cat Wilson only uses the tub to stand his plastic drinking beaker in, he does try to get into the shower with me though and when he manages to slide the door open, he stands on his hind legs, holds the glass door with one hand{paw} and reaches in trying to smack me with the other,.he considers the shower *his*domain Jean.P.

The law was not originally intended to apply to humans relationship to their cats, but it certainly applies.

Jo Firey - 14 Jul 2004 05:14 GMT Rosie always accompanies me to "the facilities". When she was a kitten it was to play with the strings on my draw string pants. Now its just a habit, though sometimes she will use my shoulders to jump into a window sill she can't reach otherwise.

And it's usually a fight over whether you get to close the door. ;)

The cats get *really* confused if someone comes to visit and closes the bathroom door.

Pan also likes to amble in, now and then, and he likes the view from the bathroom window sill. Of course, in the morning, he sits on top of the covered catbox and tells me he's TERRIBLY hungry for his breakfast, and is this my idea of prompt service?

I don't know if this is good or bad news, but once a kitty has this, it doesn't go away! I once catsat a 24-pound behemoth -- he would practically knock me down and pin me to suck my earlobe. ;) Good thing Tiny Shorty is staying a reasonable sixe. ;)

And I do have a tendency towards growing large cats - my two that have gone on to RB were 20 and 22 lbs).
So why is he named Tiny Shorty if he's not tiny? I brought him home, he weighed in at a whopping 1 lb 3 oz - he was only 3/4 weeks old. I didn't expect to keep him (or did I?) and I started calling him Tiny Shorty Little Guy, then I decided to keep him, and the name stuck. I tried calling him Slate (he's grey), but it wasn't a fit. :)

Rufous loves to come potty with me for some reason. He'll headbutt my magazine to get me to pet him instead of reading. He's really cute. Basho has been known to climb on your shoulders while you're in the toilet too!

She loves to nurse on my arm and she's going on 4 years old now. Ever try and stop a determined tabby? I just let her go at it. And yes sometimes it's in the bathroom too. If you're crazy then we need to be locked up together.

Sammy doesn't suck on my earlobe, but she sucks on my arms, my legs, my beck, her pay, her tail, Bandit's tail - whatever's handy. And yes, I just let her suck, it's impossible to stop her when she's so determined and she WILL keep at it until she gets her way (and I'm such a pushover!).

I've told the story before about a kitten our daschund found in the foothills, a poly tuxedo kitty with an extra toe on each white front foot - so of course he was named Mittens. This was way, way, back, when I was growing up. His eyes hadn't opened yet, so he was fed with a medicine dropper. Once his eyes opened up he was pretty much raised by our male daschund. The first 4-legged creature he saw was the doxy, and for the first year of his life he thought he was a d*g and slept in the d*ghouse. Then he figured out how to climb fences and eventually became the alpha tom in the neighborhood, this was before we knew anything about neutering. He never outgrew sucking on the d*g.

JPHobbs - 15 Jul 2004 13:28 GMT when Wilson first started coming down the covers with me he was still very tiny and had been deprived by his siblingsof suckling on his mother, and obviously of his food, he was only about 5 weeks old and just about starving,so he would suck my nightdress, felt icky by the time he fell asleep, but what the hell it wasn't gonna kill me, he still kneads me before he sleeps but he doesn't sock any more just dribbles a bit, also friends of mine found a little kitten with eyes still closed they had a bitch who'd had puppies recently and she suckled the kitten and they were always close the dog was Pebbles and they called the kitten Simone, thats not bad recalling names it was over 30 yrs ago, I'm not senile after .all Jean.

I figure it makes him happy, so let him suckle if thats what he wants to do. What else am I here for but to feed them, empty the boxes and be used as a pacifier? <grin> Besides, nobody can tell me he's not an eye catching earring!
