Tomorrow at 11:00 AM for a post-op check up. Poor girl will probably be
thinking "Oh crap, she's going away again. Last time she went away they put
me under anethesia and shaved my belly and did who knows what to me!" Naw,
not this time ;)
I have to say, this vet is *wonderful*. I had to make payment arrangements
and was a bit apprehensive about calling to make the appointment since I
haven't paid them in 2 weeks. The receptionist said "Oh no, you're paying
us timely, Dr. Sanders isn't worried about it. We love Persia, we have to
take care of Persia!" Isn't that nice?!
My Mom's surgery is in the morning; taking Persia in (kicking, screaming,
yowling) will be a distraction for me. I'll call the hospital down in
Beaufort tomorrow after Persia and I get home. Mom should be well into
recovery by then and hopefully in a room. Might even get to talk to her.

Interesting -- there's apparently a difference in (not meant to be
negative) ethics between human and veterinary surgeons. The American
College of Surgeons does not allow surgeons to make separate charges for
postoperative visits, with the underlying assumption that followups are
necessary and should be quoted as part of the basic price. Patients, of
course, can make payment arrangements, but the post-op visits are part
of the package. Of course, if new conditions develop postoperatively,
that's a separate billing matter.

Well, I think it varies. I know my vet would not charge for a follow up
visit.

Hopefully mine won't. God knows, the surgery plus tests and the special
food was close to $900.

If it is really a check up, I really think they won't.

Just got a call from the vet's office; no, they aren't going to charge me
for the post-op checkup. And if they have to do any tests, they'll put it
on my account. The woman said, "You've invested this much in your sweet
baby, we sure aren't going to make you feel like you can't bring her in over
some silly office visit fees or tests."
But I cancelled the appointment and will reschedule. I should have heard
from Dad about mom's surgery by now and I haven't. It was scheduled for
8:40 Eastern Time. She'd told me they said it would only take an hour and
she'd be in recovery. I've been trying to call to get info on her status
and just get the friggin runaround, being transferred from here to Hell and
back. At one point I was transferred to the Maintenance Department! Good
lord guys, Beaufort Memorial just isn't that big. (sigh)

Surgeries never seem to be on schedule. Sometimes they are delayed
for "emergencies" that always seem to take precedence. Sit tight!
Purrs for your Mom and familt. MLB

But the high school kid who is operating the switchboard is so busy text
messaging her boyfriend on her cell phone on the side that she can't
remember which call is supposed to go where.
Hope you get proper good news soon. I'm guessing the doctor's breakfast
meeting went over schedule and he should be getting caught up soon.

Ours have never charged for follow-up checks or for stitch removal. And I
don't even want to know how much vetrinary surgery I've paid for in the last
35 years. Lets just say some poodles have really bad hip and knee joints.

It is going to blow Persia's mind when you go to TED and they just look at
her and say how pretty she is and then you both go back home together.
