She filled out the questionnaire I emailed her, and she want to DECLAW!
Other than that, she sounds great! But now, unless I can talk her out of
it, I'm not sure I will adopt out to her :(

Oh, I'm sorry. What a bummer. I hate it when people are like that. I wouldn't
adopt to her either, but I'd be heartsick about kitty missing out on an
otherwise-perfect home. I hope you can change her mind.

But what guarantee would you have that she had REALLY changed her mind?
It's easy enough to say one thing and do another - and by the time
she's had the "procedure" done, it will be too late to protest.

Point taken. Better to slam the door at the mention of the "D" word.

When in doubt, don't!!! I'm sorry Minnie might miss out on a good
home but that's one *major* obstacle. Hoping that, once she gets the
facts about declawing, she'll *sincerely* change her mind, but I'd
still be wary. Good luck.

And how can you be sure she won't even if she says she won't now :((

When it comes to declawing, there's only one thing to do, ADOPT A CAT
WHO'S ALREADY DECLAWED. My beloved Misty was adopted without claws as
were my Smoker Man and Lady Jane Grey. I didn't want to mix declawed
and clawed cats so at the time we saw the declawing as a plus. Time
and experience have proved though that declawed and clawed cats can
get along just fine.
The ready availability of adoptable declawed cats indicates, to me
anyway, that these people weren't ready to have a cat as a pet in the
first place.

You know, I hate to say this, but I really hesitate even to try to
convince these people not to declaw the kitties, if that's what they
want. I just wouldn't adopt them to her at all. It just seems to me
that if you can change her mind about declawing them before she adopts
them, there's nothing to keep her from changing her mind righ back as
soon as she sees a little claw mark somewhere.

I'm inclined to agree. That plus the declawing was likely intended to
correct behavior "problems" they weren't willing to deal with. Only to
leave them with a cat with more behavior problems than it had to start with.
(There are worse things than clawing furniture. And less brutal ways to
control it.)

Furniture is just "stuff" we sit on. By the same token, I've seen many
kitties successfully taught not to claw furniture. They just need to have
some other place to vent their... whatever it is :)

Please. Maybe email her some information on declawing etc, though if she
worked at a vet even for a little while she should know....
And unless you are sure she in truly convinced not to do it, keep looking
for a home for Minnie.

Oh NO. I certainly wouldn't give her a kitten. I'd say try educating
her, but IIRC you said earlier she wants to replace a cat she lost a
year ago, and also worked at for a TED. So she should know what it
already ;-((

I wouldn't take the chance on her changing her mind again later if she
catches the kitten sharpening her claws on an oh so precious, as we
all know, inanimate object.
I just adopted Sammy a couple of months ago and since then I look like
a pin cushion I have so many tiny claw and tooth holes in my body -
seriously, I think I'm feeling weak from blood loss! You need to find
somebody willing to not only put up with clawed up furniture, but even
with a clawed up body and still totally unwilling to even think about
taking off those precious little weapons of mass (will maybe not so
massive since I've lost a bit of weight) destruction.
