On Friday I picked up an injured woodpigeon, I think it must have been
hit by a car. I took it home to give time to rest and maybe recover.
Saturday morning it still couldn't walk or fly so I took it to the vet,
thinking if it can't get better it would be kinder to have it PTS, the
vet said it may still get better if I could keep it a few more days so I
took it home and put it in the summer house with food and water. Today
it's looking a lot better and is able to stand, I think he'll be well
enough to be released tomorrow.

That's great! Poor thing. Does it seem like it will be able to fly? Keep us
posted.

He flapping his wings and flying short distances, he has improved a lot
I think he'll soon be able to go free.

Adrian, is a wood pigeon like a regular pigeon?
I guess I've never seen one. The pigeons around here they say are really
mountain doves. I like them. Lots of people don't.

It's a european species, latin name Columba palumbus, they look very
much like other pigeons.
I was going to release him today, I opened the doors of the summer house
but he just stayed on his perch, maybe he is still tired. I will try him
again tomorrow.

We had a hard time releasing our two. I took them to a feed mill, by the river,
plenty of food, water source, other pigeons everywhere. The came back, twice.
Third time they stayed.

The woodpigeon went free this morning, I opened the doors to the summer
house, he thought for a while then flew strongly straight to the top of
the ash tree in my garden.

Great news - though Sammy is kind of leary pigeons - one landed next
to her on the patio one day and Sammy ran into the apartment

That's so kind of you to care for the pigeon. We hope it does well
and recovers quickly. Let us know how it goes.
