I forgot to post this sooner:

Last Friday the vet who did Patrick's autopsy told us he died from eating
hemp dogbane. Livestock normally won't touch it, but Patrick did. Some
babies will try anything once, and Patrick was a very "mouthy" baby, from
the moment he was born he was nibbling everything. Gloria and I walked
through every pasture and weeded out every piece of the stuff. What a task
that was!

Oh, poor Patrick. But I"m glad you know for sure what it was. We had a cow eat
loco weed once. It was awful.

Well, good that you found the cause.  So dreadful to lose the little
fellow, but now you can prevent a recurrence.

I'm happy to hear what happened, for the sake of peace of mind.  I
haven't heard of this plant before, but it sure has a poisonous
sounding name.
