OK, we've had the cat panting question. Cali also does the mouth
breathing thing with stinky shoes BTW.

Anyone seen their cat snort? Cali does this when she's in bed and
Smokey comes in the room. It's like she's expressing her disgust or
just trying to get the Smokey stink out of her nose.

PEarl. Anytime I tell her to stop doing something she shouldn't be doing.
She does stop but she snorts in disgust.

ROFL. That's the funniest thing. Just like a kid. I bet she rolls her eyeballs
at you when you turn your back, too.
Has she ever given you "the ear"?

Yes. She's VERY cheeky.

Sounds like Cali, who's been known to give the ear and the TAIL. But
then what do you expect from the Queen of the Calicos. :)

Beware of the dreaded ear!  If you do something offensive enough to
get "the ear" the next time you turn your back, the cats will have
their revenge!

Around here a cat giving "the ear" is treated pretty much like a child
swearing.  Charlie always hollers at them to "put your ears back up right
now"  and they always give him a dirty look but they always do.

LOL!! This really cracked me up. I can just hear him ("Young man, you
put those ears right back up, do you hear me?").

Actually, I get a kick out of my cats giving me the ear. It's among the
most amusing cat expressions. Roxy often gives me the "half ear" (ie, only
one ear to the side). I take that to be a bit wry, kind of like rolling
one's eyes at someone, rather than like out-and-out swearing.

I just mentioned to DH again that the expression 'giving
someone ears' or 'giving the ear' has caught on to describe the
behavior.  She's delighted and sends her best regards to everyone.  I
wish I could get her to join the group, but while she's great at
researching things on the web, she's never used newsgroups.

I'd just love to hear Charlie tell a kitty to put their ears
back up, and I'm more than a little surprised that it works.  We'll
have to try that -- we  just comment on it when it happens and laugh
at the cat.

Quite possibly a flehmen response: it allows cats, and some other
animals, to push air (and scents) into their Jacobson's organ which
has two small openings just behind the upper incisor teeth.  The cat
often appears to be grimacing and may seem to be in some sort of
trance.

Yes Cali has a foot fetish. She's been known to sleep in/on guest's
shoes. Most are freaked out about her leaving them a deposit or chewing
the leather.

SO, you're the evil TED I've heard so much about. :)

I've _heard_ them snort.  Sometimes when I've teased Spot a little
too much she'll make a little noise of exasperation just before
walking away.

Chatterley (RB) had a very distinct exasperated sound, but it was more
of a quack than anything else. "You woke me up for WHAT?"

Shadow grunts.  But he can't meow, so I think he thinks he is
roaring. :)
