Coyotes are apparently moving into the DC suburbs.  There have been several
reported attacks on pets.

Yet another reason to think twice about letting the cats out.

Eek. That's scary. poor cats! I wonder why they are so big? What I find
interesting about coyotes is that yipee spooky noise they make when they
talk to each other. It is most eerie.

It's just downright creepy. When it's still here, late at night,  they sound
like they are right in the back yard. But you know what, the windows can be
open, and the cats looking out, and they are just totally oblivious to that
sound. I'm surprised it doesn't scare them.

I wonder how big their poops are? I was outside watering tonight
and there was a poop on my walkway that I don't think was there
when I got home from work. It was too small to be from any of the
dogs I've seen roaming (there aren't even that many that roam, but
those I've seen are big dogs) and too big to be a cats; they
wouldn't poop on a walkway anyway. Poop isn't something I see often
on my property. It was long rather than pellet shaped so from some
sort of carnivore.

Well, I really have no idea, but being the poop expert that I am, I am going to
answer anyway. I do know that coyotes use poop as a way to mark territory.
Could be that's why it's in an unusual place. For a description & photo of
coyote poop in full teck-ni-color, scroll to  the bottom of this page:

For some reason this brought to mind CCR's (for you amadons out there,
that's Creedence Clearwater Revival) "Bad Moon on the Rise" :)

And yes, a good reason to keep the kitties indoors.

I heard this on the news today. This is my area, and I knew there
were coyotes towards the mountains in MD and VA, but not in the
suburbs. I've read about the eastern coyote and they have some wolf
in them (a hybrid) and they are larger than western coyotes, and
fearless; probably due to being so heavily populated with humans
everywhere. I feel bad when animals come out to urban areas because
it is more signs that their own homes and food sources are being
depleted. :(

Gee, I thought all the "coyotes" in the D.C. area were the two-legged kind!
