Some of you may remember in Berlin back in April a cat was turned over to
animal control after its owner went to a nursing home. The cat was grossly
obese, 18.5 K. I just read an update that said the cat had lost 14.5 k and was
placed with a new owner.
Is that possible or a misprint? 14 k since April? That would make the cat weigh
only 4.5 K. Can someone tell me how much that is, in pound/ounces?
Thanks
Sherry

4.5Kg is roughly 9lbs 14OZ
(1Kg = 2.2lbs)

That seems like an awful lot of percent body mass to loss that
quickly. I take exception to the paragraph ""For some strange reason
people love fat cats," Pfister said. "They think it's cute and spoil
their cats with the best food they can afford."", though. Overfeeding,
or just feeding tuna, is also neglect - though maybe I better not say
it too loud since LB is definitely on the "fluffy" side.

Yeah, I like MY weight expressed in kg MUCH better than on my scale,
which measures pounds!

Oh yes - remember him well. Thanks for the tip.
He now weighs 10 pounds.

4.5 kg is about 10 lb., which is a reasonable weight for a large house
cat. 18.5 kg is 41 lb., which is an awful lot. 31 lb. weight loss in
3 months hardly seems possible.

Most people would like to lose 31 lbs in 3 months!
Remember when I posted this pic and everyone said it would be dangerous for a
cat to lose that much weight that quickly. Well it happened. My cat on the
right weighed 11 lbs.

It took *me* 6 months to lose 35 lbs. I doubt it would be possible for a
cat to lose that much in half the time.

Well, that just plain has to be wrong. No way could it have lost that much
unless it had an operation or something. I'd like to see a picture.

That's what I thought, Karen. It's either just wrong information or a
misprint. It has to be. (Even as much as I had hoped that story would have a
happy ending)
Remember that picture? I can't imagine that same cat weighing 10 lbs. now.

Well, it could be a combination of not getting fed as much as he was before
and depression. Didn't we hear that he was awfully depressed after his
original slave was sent to a nursing home? Poor thing, I'm glad he's
weighing a lot less now, and is probably much better off healthwise. I'm
sure he still misses his daddy, and I hope he found a home with much love
for him.

It seems to me that it would not be very healthy to lose so much in so short
a time. At least it wouldn't be healthy for a human to lose over 75% of
their body mass in such a short time.
