Hello, fellow cat people...
Some time ago, I'm sure you will recall I shared a rather unpleasant
story with you, about the untimely demise of my dearest "Pancake".
Well, I've been slowly healing, coming to grips with the fact that
he'd never grace me with his presence again.
I had decided that I didn't want another kitty for a while, and even
then I didn't want one that resembled my Cakers. Well, the powers
that be had other plans. After closing the store, my manager and I
stood chatting in the store parking lot, near our cars. We heard a
light mewling sound, emanating from the area of the manager's van.
The sound grew stronger as we approached the hood. He popped the
hood, and there -wedged down by the fan belt- was the sweetest little
grey tabby! He was terrified, and covered in grime. He looked like a
carbon copy of my Cakers when he was a child. Needless to say, I
snatched him up from the van and took him home. After a nice bath and
some food, he was much happier.
Clean bill of health from the vet (no FeLV or FIV - WHEW!!), & he was
given an age of about 6 weeks. The other kitties were doubtful at
first, but they're all warming to him already. He's an unholy terror,
and I couldn't be happier about it! He gets into everything and he has
this bad habit of trying to sleep across my face...this is done when
I'm also asleep, and results in my eventual gasping for air. I've
also given up on having toilet paper within easy reach until he's
about a year old.
I love him dearly already...he'll never take Pancake's place in my
heart, but that's as it should be. He may be very similar to Pancake,
but he's his own kitty :-)
However, I did bestow upon him a very special name, to honor Cakers -
the new kid is now Pancake, Junior (we call him "PJ")
Well, that's it for now...I just had to share my joyous news with an
understanding group. Now if you'll excuse me, I have several kitties
who are demanding I play the "feather game" with them....

How exciting!! Grant had a similar experience at a similar age. He has grown
to be a strapping big boy. Congrats on PJ. I know Pancake was behind this.

I'm glad the kitty called out to you -- it probably saved his life.

Very wise of you to allow him to be just that. <G> We can't replace the cats
we've loved, but we can have worthy successors.
