I would imagine it's celebrated the same way the 'Merkins will celebrate
4th of July on Sunday. If chocolate does it for you, I guess it involves
chocolate... :)

Happy Canada Day from me too, a former (1984-88) employee of the
Canadian Embassy in Helsinki.

Thanks! The official celebrations are the televised from Parliament
Hill in front of the House of Commons in Ottawa - our entertainers,
officials etc. have their turns. Canadians have the day off and
celebrate their first warm-weather holiday after a tough winter at the
beach, in the parks, watching fireworks at night and so on.
Surprisingly there was a garbage collection in our district this
morning, but it's a safe bet the collectors made big holiday pay for
it. Our kitties take it in stride - unless the neighbours set off
fireworks. If so they scramble for their basement "bomb shelter" - the
furnace room.

Yep, pretty much like the American celebrations I guess, except for the
Maple Syrup and Hockey Pucks. :)

/rant on
Never been a fan of the government celebrations. I think we should be
secure enough not to have the thought police ramming "Canadian Culture"
down our throats. I for one, won't miss Sheila.

Go figure the TO politicians springing for garbage pickup on a Holiday.
Glad I live in Hazelville, where it was contracted out long ago.

Cali actually enjoys the Fireworks, but then she likes Thunder Storms
too.

mention politics here again.

Happy Canada Day to you then. :)  Ooo, I'm not looking forward to
the fireworks here. I'm close to where they shoot them off, but now
I might not even be here. I can't stay away all night without
someone stopping by (Shadow, meds) so I might be here, but it'll be
close. Going to spend the day either Sat. or Sun. south of here at
some friends' house boating and crabbing. :)

Thanks.

Peepers and Smudge here in Toronto are busily sleeping through the day but
they will be back in time for Supper.  As for me, it means I don't have to
fight Smudge to see the screen and I am not being distracted by Peepers
rubbing my leg(s) or meowing and then going into his pet/play/whatever
(could be called I want) pose.

Not sure if there are any fireworks at the major parks around the city since
we usually do that kind of thing in May.

I'm such a terrible Canadian.  We did nothing for Canada Day yesterday but
we're going to a big 4th of July BBQ in Bangkok on Saturday.  Same as last
year.  I guess when you're living abroad you can't really pick your parties,
LOL!

That must be weird - you're living in a foreign country, celebrating a
holiday that is neither theirs nor yours! :)

Yeah, well any excuse for a party with us ;-)  We just know a lot of
American expats who live in Bangkok.  Lots of people from Houston who work
in the oil industry around here.

Thanks, all, for the wishes.

The weather was good here in the Okanagan. DH actually went to work
because everyone there agreed to take Friday off instead and make it a
long weekend. But then we had a nice relaxing evening  -- scrubbed off
the BBQ after the winter and fired that up again, then hung around the
yard reading and whatnot.

The cats were a bit peeved about the fireworks. I think some of them
were local in our neighbourhood, not just the big ones down at the lake.

Our friends usually wear Canada flag and maple leaf tattoos -- there are
lots of flags flying from cars -- people wear any T-shirt that seems
vaguely Canadian (Roots stuff qualifies). It was a good day all 'round.

And, yeah, Tigger, we needed a good hot Canada Day to wash away the
dregs of the election. Regardless of what party you voted for, at least
we can say it's over (for now). It would have been far far worse to have
campaigning on the holiday - that would have really spoiled things.
