A few nights ago I had a tiff with the SO.  I decided not to sleep in
the master bedroom but instead to go to the guest bedroom.  I made up
the guest bed and lay down.  I left the door open so Pepper and Simba
could sleep with me like usual.  Well, this was just not acceptable to
the two little kings...I belonged in the Big bed with my SO!  I tried
to sleep for an hour and the entire time they were running from the
master bed to the guest bed.  They would jump up on me, use a paw to
poke my face and then run to the door of the bedroom, look back and
say murrrp.  I could almost hear them say"mom..come on mom...its time
to go the big bed...we sleep in the big bed, not the little bed!"
After an hour I gave up and moved back to the master bedroom with the
SO.  Both cats RAN in and jumped on the bed to go to sleep.  It was
like they were thinking, "OK mom is back in bed, things are as they
should be.  We can go to sleep now".  I just thought it was cute that
they hated me messing with the bedtime routine and wanted me back
where I belong! Oh, SO and I have made up :)

How funny.  Yes, they want to be sure that all the proprieties are
observed.  Stinky  definitely wants me up and around and in bed at the
proper times. ;)

LOL. That's funny. The furbabies don't make it fun to have tiff, eh? Give
them both extra skritches from us. :)

Sounds like you had a little help from your 4-footed friends. :)

Glad to hear it, in any case!

I think that, especially because they are indoor only cats, routine is
very important to them.  They don't go outside, so the townhouse is
the entire world to them and they like everything to be in its place
and "just so"! Does anyone else with indoor only cats notice this?  Or
is it just a general cat thing that they like predictability?  Pepper
and Simba are my first cats, previously I had a dog so at times I am
not sure what is just "cat behavior" and what is the boys acting
strange! P.S. who can stay angry with two little fuzz-butts acting so
cute? :)

Of my three, only LB is a neat feak. Rocky was feral and is now
indoor/outdoor. LB came to me as a stray, and Sammy was born inside.
Sammy and LB are indoor cats with supervised visits to the OUT, so I
don't think it has anything to do with being indoor only cats.

Cats are very much creatures of habit, and in my experience they Don't
Like Change. They love their routines and rituals. For example, Roxy won't
let me pet her except in certain, approved "petting areas". If she's lying
on the couch and I start petting her there, she'll get up and go to the
rug on the living room floor, plop down, and do the "cute kitty" pose
(see http://home.sonic.net/~jwermont/cats/new_pictures/roxy_fetching.jpg).
This is where I'm supposed to pet her. (I can also pet her if I'm at my
computer.)

Cats are weird.

The rug thing reminds me of a similar thing I noticed about Betty.
Her acceptance of being loved and cuddled seems to be related to the
floor surface of the room where she is.  She won't take love in the
kitchen, because she won't roll around on linoleum.  She becomes extra
slutty upstairs, because the upstairs carpet is flat and textured, and
perfect for writhing and dragging herself around.  The downstairs
carpet is piled carpet, and does not give as much traction.

You know the old saying, "don't go to bed mad". Pepper and Simba did a
good job.

This is why I love cats so much. :-)
