Last night I put a dab of veseline on his scab and Robin started
pushing against my hand; so I rubbed it in good. He sure enjoyed the
rubbing. But then the scab came off in pieces and when I wiped it
clean, it was all healed with just a bit of pink.
So this morning I put another dab of vaseline on it and took off the
collar. His body heat melted the vaseline and made it tickle as it
spread out. So he scratched it. Only a smear of blood but the spot is
red from capillary bleeding. I wiped off the excess vaseline and since
then he has left it alone. So no more collar.
Then he spent the next hour grooming himself. I guess me wiping his
bum wasn't enough. He went over every inch of his body putting all
hairs in order and scratching his neck where the collar had rubbed. He
had a hard time smoothing down that hair. But he was finally satisfied
with his appearance and well-being and took a nap.
But I will keep a close watch on the wound area.

Yay! I'm so glad it's healed now!
The collar thing reminds me of when Betty used to wear her regular
stretchy collar. I noticed that her skin seemed to be slightly
indented all around her neck where the collar was. Her collar was
always loose, and I could stick a couple of fingers in easily, and it
was the stretchy type, too. After I took off her collar for good, it
took weeks for the indentation to go away completely. Betty didn't
seem to care whether her collar was on or off, though.

Compression of the hair follicles, i guess. Being just a neck ring, so
to speak, it wouldn't bother a cat much, except a finicky cat.
But an Ecollar has weight and flops to one side when off center, etc.
He would swing his head from side to side as he loped along. And his
ears would be curled like a Scottish fold.

Sammy loves to have her collar put on, since that mans she's about to
get to go outside. But once the adventure to the Out is over and she's
back inside she can't wait for it to come off. She'll scratch at it
and rub it againt my leg if I don't take it off as soon as I carry her
inside. Little Bit couldn't care less. I don't put it on uinless we're
headed outside, but when she comes in she ignores it and sometimes
ends up wearing it for the rest of the day. I'm still working on
getting Rocky to wear a collar. He doesn't mind having one put on when
he goes out, but has managed to shed it by the time I next see him.

I never stopped to think before how awful it could be for a cat. It is
meant to protect a wound or something like that. but it is so
frustrating in every other part of life. Eating, grooming, grooming as
posturing, the weight on the ears, the sheer misery of it. I know if I
can't get to a itchy spot it seems to get worse and make me frantic. I
really hope I never have to use it again.

Glad to hear he's finally free of that medieval torture device, and
purrs for the wound to continue healing.

Thanks for all the continued purrs. that is probably what is keeping
him from scratching it open.

How wonderful it must feel for Robin to finally get to set his fur right!

Robin certainly appreciates Finnish scritches! I noticed that he walks
taller and more self-confidant now. Looking back, I reaalize now that
he had been walking like he was ashamed or had an inferior complex. An
Ecollar does not go with his image of himself as a superior species.

He is very grateful to have the collar off. he gave me lots of loving
last night. He curled up in my arms purring and made biscuits around
my neck and gave me kitty kisses. :-)
