Richmond VA Area Shelters?

A friend who has listened to my tales about Persia for several years has
decided he needs a cat.  He's retired, in his 60's and many of us who chat
with him in the rfc chat room are constantly talking about our cats.  Last
night he finally confessed, "I think I want to get a cat."  Anyone have cat
shelter info in Richmond where he could find a little feline friend?  I did
warn him, chances are the little critter will pick *him* rather than the
other way around.  While I suspect he thinks he wouldn't want a lovey clingy
critter, I'm pretty sure that is what would grow on him :)

Take into account great love and great achievements involve great risk.

Isn't the Richmind city shelter that really nice shelter that has revamped
everything and has really stepped up to the bar for adopting out? I think I
saw a piece on the news some months ago about it. They have really nice
facilities where the kitties are socialized and you can interact witht hem
and everything.

Not sure what's available there, but if you go to www.petfinders.com you can
find a list of shelters in vicinity.  Some will even have some of the pets
listed.  Or he can contact a local vet's office - they would be able to help
too.

I had to laugh about the little critter picking him - my very first kitten
picked me - from the time he could walk (he and litter were orphaned) he
would follow me every where.  For the next 15 years he was my faithful
companion, slept next to my head every nite on his own pillow.  Oh how I
miss that.  Now I've got 8 to keep me busy! :)  I woke up w/three attached
to me this morning.  What a wonderful way to wake up in the mornings!

Good luck to your friend!

With Betty, I had to pick her.  She was a polite little thing that
kept to herself in the back of her cage, but desperate for love.  I
petted her for a while, then went home, where I got sadder and sadder
thinking about Betty back at the shelter, and went to pick her up when
I couldn't stand it anymore. :)

When I brought her home, her eyes just lit up.  She danced and trilled
and covered me with kisses and headbutts.  I'd never seen any creature
so happy, and I know now that I'd never made a decision that was so
right.

I understand *perfectly* your phrase, "polite little cat.".  Such a neat story.
How long have you had her?

Do you also have a polite cat?  Biskit sounds very polite.  Betty
practices good etiquette by doing things like curtsying when greeting
me, and generally being delicate and dainty.

I've had Betty for a little over a year, since around the time you
were fostering Colin.  She's my first cat.

Oh, yes. Biskit is very polite. She sounds just like Betty. Everything about
her is dainty, her little white paws and her timid little "meow." Her housecat
manners are impeccable. Never gets on the table and such. She even sits at my
feet and waits to be "asked" to jump up in my lap.
I hadn't thought about Colin in a long time. He *has* been gone about a year. I
should call and see how he's doing.

I've also thought that Biskit is like Betty, except even more polite.
I don't imagine there are too many stray cats that would let you just
drag them from underneath a car.  Betty is also more persistent when
it comes to laps.  She will frantically go through her little routine
when she wants laptime.  She pokes, she taps, she purrs, she bows, she
paces...

This sounds likes Spicey's feed me routine. We feed her wet food upon request.
Her dry dish always has food in it.

Hi Jill,

Richmond has a very nice new SPCA facility that was written up
in the paper here in Northern VA.  I've heard good things about
it.  Have him look it up in the phone book.  Best wishes.
