In the comics, Rose is a Rose", the kitten has been playing bottle cap
soccer on the kitchen floor. The goal is under the refrigerator. Ours do the
same. Inside the front hall closet is the rubber band collection.

Now, why do they drop their little soft toys in the water bowl or the
toilet?

To drown them, or course!

Grant's pom pom balls always end up in either the food or water dish.
Actually, I've seen him do this. He is playing and playing and then carrying
the ball and he'll do a double take at the food or water dish and decide to
get a bite or a drink and drops the ball in. Exercise creates a need to eat
and drink :)

I find my cat's pom pom's in the toilet all the time.
I don't know how many have ended up at the sewage treatment plant.
The little guy will just pick one up walk over to the toilet and drop
it in. Of course it doesn't float and he is NOT about to get his paws
wet retrieving the thing. He stares at it for a while and then leaves
to find another toy.

Smokey likes to play Lemon soccer. She has a toy nerf lemon that I got
from a Pepsi promotion, which she likes to chase around. She will carry
this around at 2 am and scream that it's soccer time. Damn Euro cat. :)

She also has a toy orange, but it's a little bigger and made of heavier
material. So I don't like to use this, as she likes to stop the ball
with her head. She can't afford to lose the brain cells believe me.
Although the Lemon is currently in an alternate dimension, so it's
gentle Orange soccer for now.

Spicey loves waterbottle caps, her goal is under the stove or the couch.

I've never seen Betty play soccer.  It took her a while to warm up to
the idea of playing with the cat dancer, though we play every day now.
It's very, very rare that she ever moves anything, or carries an
object from place to place.  I suspect that she didn't have access to
toys as a kitten.

The alternative version in this household is pea hockey, and even noodle
hockey.  Whatever they can find on the floor gets batted around for hours.

Precisely why I keep the toilet lid down at all times!  (And because I
don't much like their tendency to drink from it rather than their water
bowl.)

Persia plays soccer with Brach's Butterscotch candies.  I keep the rubber
bands away from her but she likes my hair scrunchies; they wind up under my
desk.  I keep the toilet lids down and she drinks from a fountain so her
soft little mice toys only gather around it; I suspect she thinks they might
be thirsty :)
