Tigger - 23 Jun 2004 00:45 GMT Are there any foods your cat detests?
Smokey is a real moocher, when it comes to human food. If we are in the kitchen she'll plunk her butt down in the middle of the floor and howl until she gets a bite. Her favourites our Cheddar cheese and Cod. She can be anywhere in the house when you open the cheese and she will come running.
But there are also a couple of foods that don't meet her standards. Although she'll ask for a taste when you're eating Hotdogs or Blood Sauasage, if you give her a bite she'll try to bury it. She seems to be saying, "I know what those are made of".

Smokey likes the cheap cat food, Whiskas in the econo bag from Costco. If that's all she ate, $20 would feed her for the year. We've tried almost every variety of Science Diet out there, but she detests the stuff. Although she will steal the lite out of Cali's bowl, which is the last thing she needs. Because in spite of her ravenous appetite, she is not fat. Fortunately Cali likes the upscale food and eats Smokey's cast offs.
They both like Fancy Feast, especially Trout, Beef (not chunky), Cod Sole & Shrimp, and Whitefish & Tuna. Smokey also likes people tuna, but not Cali. Although Cali will eat Salmon if it has Mayonnaise and Salt & Pepper.
Victor Martinez - 23 Jun 2004 13:29 GMT > Yes, but do they consider it Litterbox material. :) If by "litterbox material" you mean that they try to bury the food... then yes, they do. Like all good parents, we try to feed good, nutritious food to our kids. So we give them the super premium first, when they're hungry. After a while, we give them the stuff they like (which is still ok, but not as good). Sorta like, "eat your veggies or you won't get dessert", for cats. :)

Jo Firey - 23 Jun 2004 02:53 GMT > Are there any foods your cat detests? Our two will not touch canned cat food, and up until two days ago would not eat any people food either. With the exception of shrimp and raw tuna.
They would be happy to live on a diet of dry Purina Deli-Cat.
Given a choice I wouldn't let it in the house.
Compromise is we mix it half and half with Nutro Maxi Cat and they like the combo fine.
As seems to ever be the case if you say "my cat always" or "my cat never". Two days ago Rosie decided to start sampling some of the treats the dog gets. And now loves the sliced turkey the dog gets as a treat. This morning, Jake decided to go over to the dark side as well and was eating the turkey almost as fast as Rosie was. Rosie also had a go at a bit of left-over steak yesterday. Next week - who knows.

Which is not good, since she suffers from mega colon. Although her ONE weakness is BACON. We bought her a bag of those bacon flavoured dog treats once, but she said you must be kidding. Smells like a bag of chemicals, NOT BACON.

Next week - who knows. Funny you should mention treats, Smokey won't touch cat treats, but Cali loves them. Smokey pretty much loves all people food with a few exceptions, but Cali is happy to live on her dry cat food.

It's not that they detest anything in particular, though most of the brood like one kind of people food and will turn up their little noses at another. The trick that most of them have in common is playing with their food if they get anything 'chunky in gravy'. What they'll do is lick up the gravy while leaving the little chunks on the plate.

Yes, the girls think the food in gravy must be a money making conspiracy, because no one eats it. They just lick off the gravy and leave the rest.

They just lick off the gravy and >leave the rest. Snicker... My three get dry food with unlimited access to water. BUT, they'll get the odd bit of wet food as an occasional treat. Waffles is the same. The boys lick the gravy off and then eat some of the meat at least. I think it's a sort of chocolate for cats, if you see what I mean - all three will *howl* when they see me take out a can of wet food, and have their noses in the trough before I've finished putting the stuff down... but it's the gravy they are howling for.

The smell seems to absolutely hypnotize him, to the point where I have to be really careful, because he will bust through anything to get to it, once he smells it. I give him the wrappers, so he can at least enjoy the smell, without worrying about him eating it. He goes bonkers.

Signature Takeoff is an option. Landing is a must!
And in the end on wheels we will depend.

Felix does that, which is why I don't buy that kind any more [I found it frustrating to be throwing so much away]. The mushy kind, he generally Hoovers right down. ;-)

Shmogg does that, and then because he's licke dup the gravy so fast, he'll throw up! have to get the "loaf" style tins or I get a very hungry and cranky cat that leaves cat barf everywhere. Only being able to eat "loaf style" dramitcally reduces the range of canned stuff he can eat, but Shmogg doesn't seem to complain, as long as there's lots of it in his bowl as soon as he's told us he wants it!

dirtylitterboxofferingstospammers - 23 Jun 2004 07:42 GMT >Her favourites our Cheddar cheese and Cod. She >can be anywhere in the house when you open the cheese and she will come >running. Waffles loves cheese and fish, but her favourite is ham. Waffles will kill for ham ;-) Francis is a delicate, highly-refined boycat. He and Vernon have a breakfast meet every morning. Vernon has a large bowl of museli topped with banana every day for his breakfast. Francis sits patiently at Vernon's feet whilst Vernon has his breakfast. Then, when there's a small amount of museli in milk left in the bowl, Vernon puts the bowl down and Francis gets his share. This daily ritual has been going on for years. Francis only wants his breakfast with Vernon - the offerings form Nathan or I are not up to scratch. I would point out - the bowl is sterilised afterwards :-) Marble will eat *anything* - he's a hog.
What they don't like....
errrr....
errr.....
errrr...
could be anything they previously adored really!

This daily I do the same with Fez. But I can't leave the bowl on the coffee table ( I eat breakfast while reading the paper in the living room) or else I risk Fez finishing off before I do! :)

I figure after living in the same home as long as we have, with a great deal of cuddling and such, we've got all the same bugs :-).

jemifur - 24 Jun 2004 14:00 GMT > Are there any foods your cat detests? > [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > can be anywhere in the house when you open the cheese and she will come > running. Simba likes anything that is "people food". Some favorites are hot sauce, Thai food and grilled tuna. He does not like turkey flavor wet cat food. When I serve it, I am obviously attempting to poison him. Chicken flavor is OK, but no turkey. Pepper likes strawberry cheesecake ice-cream, cheese and grilled tuna. He does not like hairball paste, yogurt or chili. When I offer these, it is obviously a ploy to poison him.
