Another use for kitty stroller

We found yet another good use for the kitty stroller.  Evacuating the
premisis!  We had a strong thunder storm roll thru this afternoon and
our building was hit by lightening.  I felt and smelled it!  The
building's fire alarms started blaring for s few seconds, stopped for
about two minutes and started blaring again and I heard the fire
department pull up outside so we decided to evacuate.  Oliver loves his
stroller so much he hopped right in and let me close him up with no
problems.  He would not have been so cooperative if it was his carrier.
Unfortunatly it was raining buckets when we left the building so we
all got drenched.  The firemen seemed impressed with Oliver's stroller.
They think the lightening strike fried the alarm system but there is no
active fire.  Oliver was very calm about the whole thing and even came
out of the privacy compartment to look at the fire trucks and meowed
"hello" at the fire captain

So now we're up to 4 uses for the stroller:

Catmobile
kitty kamper (sleeping area)
purse hanger
Emergency Vehicle

On a side note, I have to say how proud I am of my Lab, Boone.  Like all
Labs he loves a party and any time he sees lots of people he thinks it
is a party and gets excited.  But during our evacuation he behaved
extremly well, walking calmly beside the stroller in a very stately
manner and ignoring all the people and the other animals.  He sat
quietly next to the stroller, ocassionally checking on Oliver thru the
mesh.  He acted so proud when the fire captain talked to us and he was
able to show off Oliver and the stroller.  Usually he likes people to
say hi to him but he was trying to get the guy to see that he had Oliver
inside the stroller.  It cracked me up and made me want to cry at the
same time.  He sure loves his cat!

Margaret, kudos to your pets for being such fine animals especially in a
crisis. Boone is such a godsend, isn't he? And please give Oliver extra
skritches for being such a good kitty. Glad everything turned out well.

Oliver got his extra skritches, as requested!  I am just amazed at how
well they both did!

Wow. that is great that it was calm and successful. That is the thing I so
worry about. Three cats. One person. Emergency. Ugh. Ah well. Glad to hear
you are ok.

I know how you feel.  One of my biggest fears is I'll be here alone and
something will happen and Oliver will dive under the bed.  I could never
get him out of there by myself.  I am seriously thinking of putting some
kind of boards around the bed so he cannot get in there.  He has plenty
of other bolt holes!

It sounds like you have special "kids".  Purrs that they will all be
healthy and happy and that the lightning stays far away.   MLB

I was re-reading some old posts.  I had forgotten tat Boone had been
trained to be a seeing eye dog.  That explains why he is such a good
guardian --bless him.  The stroller sounds like a great thing to have.

Boone really seems to know when he should be good and when he can get
away with acting like a typical dog.  When he was a guide dog in pre
training we had this little blue coat that we would put on him that said
"guide dog in pre training" and the local businesses were more accepting
of letting a dog into their establishments with coats on.  When Boone
got his coat and we started taking him places you could just see him
change from a goofy puppy to a upstanding canine citizen.  The change
was both physical (head always up, no sniffing) and mental (paying
attention to what we wanted which still isn't always his strong suit).
When we took the coat off he reverted to goofy puppy almost instantly.
Very funny to watch!  :-)

It really is funny how much he adores Oliver.  Woe to the person who
doesn't treat HIS cat well.  :-)

It's so nice that they were so well behaived for you in an emergency.
I know I'd be hunting all over the place for mine, since they freaked
the other day when the landlord came in and testing the smoke
detector.

On a side note, my server cut off your message. I know I've had whole
messages disappear at times when I see replies to a post that was
dropped, but I think this is the first time I got part of a post. I
see the rest of the OP in replies, but all I received was what you see
above.

That is strange about the message.  It was on the long side but not that
long.  I wonder if the spaces after the last line threw it off.  Hmmm,
censorship by server?  :-)

I'm glad this story had a happy ending!  Please give Oliver and Boone
some snuggles for me for being such good boys.  I have enjoyed their
pictures and their stories.  When I was in high school, we had a lab
who looked a lot like Boone, and I can just picture him behaving
*exactly* as you describe Boone doing.  Bubba was a marvelous dog, and
I still miss him an awful lot.

I'm glad you all were ok, and that is a great idea for evacuation
purposes. I might have to get one just for that. Just in case.

I'm new to the group (actually I'm really an member from way, way back
when there was only rec.pets.cats and we were just thinking about
making off-shoots to the group because some people were annoyed with
the meow-talk posts, but I've been away for years).  So, I don't know
what a kitty stroller is - can you explain?  Is it something you made,
or something your purchased somewhere, or is it a baby stroller that
you converted?

Oh yeah, you're definitely not a new member.  I was a big fan of your
old cat web page with all the funky background music, and your Prissy
stories!

BTW, here are Margaret's pics, and a link to the catalog item:

THANK YOU!!  I am so flattered that your remembered after all these
years.  I'm thinking about putting up another personal site (I only
have professional ones up now), and I'd be adding some of the old
stuff I used to have.

KEWL!  I'm thinking about getting one now myself -it looks really
neat!  We have one girl who loves to be outside, but we don't ever
allow any of our babies out, so this would be great for her.

That would really be great.  There must be a lot of people here who
loved your site, I'm sure.  The last thing I remembered from your old
site was when you got little Demi kitten, and she looked so cute
peeking over the lip of a box or cat bed at Bandit.  You'll have to
stick around and tell us about your two newer babies too.

When this subject first came up, we were all swearing that none of us
would ever even think of buying such a thing.  Margaret's pics have
won me over, though.  It actually looks well designed and put
together, and her Oliver obviously enjoys it.
