hey everyone,

I don't think I've really told everyone what I do besides being a
student.  I'm in school to be a Licensed Veterinary Technician.  So,
in a sense, I'm currently working with and going to school to help
TED.  :)

hehehehehehe

I currently work at the Agoura Animal Clinic in Agoura Hills, CA.  We
see lots of small animals, including exotics.  I have TONS of stories
to share, if people will please forgive me for being in cohorts with
the evil vet.  :)

I'm not an expert, but I can definitely sympathize with everyone's
trips to the vet.  It's interesting for me since I'm a pet owner and I
can see both sides from the owner and of the doctor/technician.

So keep an eye out for my stories, like I said, I have a lot.

I'd love to read them! In all of my experiences with vets and techs,
I respect techs in every case I've been involved in, even when I've
had problems with the vets. I adore the techs at the vets office
where mine go now; actually, I adore the vet there, too.

I have no problem with vets or techs - where I take Persia they just adore
her and treat her like the little queen she knows she is.

Funny, every vet I've ever had has looked like some sort of celebrity.  When
my dog Sampson was alive his vet looked like actress Geena Davis.  Tall and
willowy and with a mass of long red curls.  Persia's first vet looked like
actor Rob Lowe.  He left that practice and the vet she sees now looks and
talks just like Judge Larry Joe from one that court show.  Hmmm.

I suppose there are just so many face types.  Everywhere I go, I see
someone who reminds me of someone else.  Then there are times I see
someone I think I know, but realize that person is long departed.

I'd love to read them too. I have the utmost respect for the techs that work
for my vet. In many cases, the tech can help you as much as the vet.

Congratulations on picking a wonderful career!  My brother-in-law is a
vet's assistant

I can't wait to read some of your stories.

Oh no! You are one of the evil ones! ;o) No but seriously, you have my
admiration. As much as I love cats, I don't think I could do what you do, so
kudos to you. I'm looking forward to your stories.

Errmm, do you know how to get a blue chlorhexidine stain out of a
formerly white tennis shoe?  And off my kitchen counter?  (Bleach does
*not* work, but turns the blue stain brown and apparently makes it
permanent, as I found to my sorrow and the detriment of my
countertop.)

I figure your post means you're the one to ask.  ;-)

???? <scratching head>

Can't figure out *what* this has to do with being in vet tech school...

Heh.  I guess the connection wouldn't have been obvious to anyone but
me - chlorhexidine is a disinfectant solution I got from TED.  I
thought someone who works for a vet might have experience with stains
from this stuff, but maybe Kristi's not as big a klutz as I am.   :-D

That's interesting, because chlorohexidine isn't supposed to stain.
That's why it's used as opposed to bleach or Povidone (Iodine based)
It comes in pink too.    Hmmmmmmmmmm....

Can't exactly answer that immediately, but I will ask my supervisor
about it.

Was it an undiluted solution?  Cause that stuff is pretty blue, and we
normally dilute it.  How blue is the stain?  And how did it get on
your counter and you're shoe?  :)

The stain on my shoe is pretty blue - it was undiluted solution that
dripped while I was pouring it.  It was diluted when it got on my
counter - what's there is a ring from setting down the little bowl it
was in.  But what was a blue ring is now a brown ring - apparently the
stuff doesn't mix well with bleach.  After seeing that, I haven't
tried to get it out of my shoe yet, since I didn't know what to use.
But it's hardly a big deal - please don't worry about finding this
out; I'd just thought you might know.  My old canvas tennis shoes can
just have a blue spot forever after.  ;-)

I had it in my house because TED gave me a bottle of the stuff to soak
my finger after Mikey bit clear through my nail at TED's office.  It
seems to have worked, too - no infection and the swelling and most of
the soreness are gone!

Owwwwwwww!!  My finger hurts just thinking about that.

Chlorhex is good for cleaning tissue.  We use it to prep the skin for
surgeries.

If its undiluted then yeah, good luck getting it out of your shoe.
But the counter stain sucks, so I'll ask about that.  :)

Hey there,

My supervisor said to try some rubbing alcohol to get the stain out.
No promises, however.  :)

Feel free to share!  I especially love vet stories - used to work for one
years ago.  Loved the job, but the pay was  not paying the bills.  But I was
only a receptionist, no training (other than human - medical assistant).
But the experiences I'll never forget - do you see exotics or just stick
w/house pets?  I can tell you about Lucy Goosy, the peacock - snakes,
another vet had a pet mountain lion.  Saw some interesting things.  So
please, share the stories!!
