Saturday, the mother cat returned her kittens to the barn. My daughter
found them and was able to scoop all four up and take them into the house,
where they promptly went under the dresser in the kitten room.
Buddy, their brother, who had been enjoying the life of a pampered cat was
surprised when his siblings hissed at him, but then he showed them how he
had trained a kitten slave to give him food and tummy rubs.
Christine told me that there were four pairs of bright eyes and four tiny
pink noses peeking out from under the dresser, watching this demonstration.
One of Buddy's siblings came out and ate with him and even wrestled with him
a little, before zipping back under the furniture.
None of the others came out, but Christine left food and water for them and
left them alone in the room.

Buddy and his siblings sound so adorable. It's amazing that the
momcat brought her kittens back. Hopefully, Christine can catch her
too. Fingers are crossed.

They'll come around slowly. Food is a great motivator. When I got Licorice
she would hide too, then get close but would bolt if I tried to get too
close. Finally I fed her cut up meat baby sticks by hand - I was soon
awarded w/nose nuzzles and cheek rubs. She's still awkward, but when I got
her she was 6 months. Christine has a better chance of socializing since
they are still so young. I'm happy to hear all kittens are safe, and please
pass on best wishes to her!

Hi, JoJo,
Yep, she got those babies at exactly the right age; old enough to eat and
start using the litter box and young enough to tame. Also, she now has
Buddy to act as an ambassador. The others will learn from watching him.
Stay tuned for a surprise in update 3.

She figured that they hadn't gone very far. The barn is the only structure
in the area. They wouldn't want to stay out in the weeds very long,
especially because it was supposed to rain that night. The kittens are too
small to toddle after their mother for any distance, yet they are getting
kind of big for her to make five very long trips. Christine was betting that
the cats would stay in the drying spot with food, which was the barn.
Please keep those fingers crossed and stay tuned for update 3.

Oops! I guess I should have added a kitten fever warning, but, (silly me) I
thought the title of the thread would suffice. (grin). Now that it's hit
you, you might as well go to the Yahoo RPCA_Pictures site and look in
Annie's photos at the one called (steady, now) Barn Kittens.
And here I am, 2,000 miles away from said daughter and her charges with
(dare I say it?) pinky noses. (sigh)
