I've waited a while to see if things worked out before mentioning it to
anyone but...
Several days ago, we became slaves... Yesterday we became slaves again.
And Jody is ensnared. Abi's completely besotted and Sassafras purrs her
bloody little head off no matter how the 6 year old drags her through the
yard. They're inseperable, completely bonded.
We were at my sister's and this cute little maybe three months at best
calico kitten waltzed by, skinny and starved. We weren't looking because
after the last time, I just didn't want to commit. I tried, it didn't work
out and we were afraid it wouldn't again. But... when Abi came walking
through with Sassy swinging from under her front legs, and I was able to
hear her purring a half block away... It was just... It happened :) Jody
said we could't leave her, so he popped her in the truck and we headed home.
The next morning Jody came by me with a gallon of milk. Bless his heart, I
decided to hope for the best and not say anything about lactose intolerant
felines. But.... where is my husband, what has happened to him and when did
the mothership install superduper mind erasing for cat dislikers?
She's been in the new house keeping the construction crews company,
thoroughly inspecting each tile placed and each light hung. After a while
she'll doze for as long as they're continuing to do the exact same thing she
inspected but if they move to a different part of the house she'll trot
over, hop on a ladder and meow her instructions.
Btw, I'm told it's difficult to lay tile with a cat in the way.
Willow, is a small manx female that came up to the office a few weeks ago.
She's been there ever since but with the summer coming up, and our facility
bordering a military training area/airfield she came home, here. And been
with us for a few days so far.
Willow seems to be more grown up, she's not kittenish but instead a
dignified love slut. She'll bump my hand but she won't show off too much.
She's the epitome of refinement. Sassy is, I'm ashamed to report, a
niphead. Since we've had her, she hasn't bitten, clawed or pounced. She'll
chase a leaf, but she isn't... or wasn't... aggressive until I placed down
some catnip that I had grown. She turned into a homicidal tiger ;).
I've got to get photos off my memory chip tonight from the house and then I
can take some of the owners. I want to show off Miss Sass-a.s. Her tail is
orange, her back legs and hips are white with a strange anatomically placed
black spot... right smack in the middle of her *ahem* derriere.

Thanks Sherry. To be honest, I'm still nervous. The last time we tried this,
I had to take her back to her original owner. I still see Miss Kitty often
and after my friend's husband was seperated from her for a while, they went
ahead and brought her in with the other three. So it turned out best. She
was very much missed.
But.. I'm nervous all the same. Looks like it's actually turned out really
great though!

then? Or are they going to be outdoor cats?

Sassy is working hard at being indoor. She's not in the trailer yet but
that's because she stays in the house. She comes and goes where she
wants. I figure, she's in the house and chances are she's not coming
back out. Jody's snarling over it, but he's also doing morning checks
and knows where she's at when I ask. I really want her in the house
because she's family already and it'll devastate a couple of the family
members if we lost Sassafrass. And honestly, if she stays outside she
probably wouldn't make it long enough to suit me.
We're taking it slow but I plan on introducing Willow inside as well.
She acts like she's been a housecat before, or she did at the office.
She wandered around inside and then went out again after a bit. And
she's inside the house too off and on. But again, Sass is the most
important thing right now. The only *only* reason she'll be going
anywhere is if Mutt really does not tolerate it well. And I think you're
about like me, if Vino's health suffered from a new pet, things would
need to change ;).
Abi is for the most part over them. She's hugged all over my friend's
cats and she's loved all over Sassy for days now. Eve seems to be good.
She does seem to have allergies. But it's always with either weather
changing (odd, but I can count on a runny nose every single blessed
time) or with seasonal change. Cat fur has not seemed to set her nose
off. Plus I'm investing in a couple of air purifiers. Mutt sheds an
ungodly amount already, and I really want to try and do some things that
keeps the hair down a bit in the new house. We won't have carpet in
anything but the bedrooms, and we'll have blinds no curtains in the
living area. All in all, we're going to have considerably less fabric
(new leather sofa) than what we do now. Pet friendly, and easy to
de-dander I hope. Basically, aside from one piece of sitting furniture,
I don't know of any fabric that will be in the living area. Couple throw
rugs but those are replacable and easily cleaned.
Umm.. inside to answer your question :) Half of 'em anyway

Bet Eve is allergic to moldspores and plant pollens. I am allergic to
both and get "sick" a day or so after a rain, after heavy winds, and
whenever various plants bloom. We don't need to worry about asking when
the pine trees, cottonwood, mulberry, roses, etc. are blooming, we look
at my allergy medicine levels and know.

I thought Abi was allergic?
Glad that's working out well.

See reply to Britta. We worked it out when we had Miss Kitty for a while
that she wasn't allergic any longer, *or* it's so mild that she's more
or less outgrown them.
I never had her tested specifically for cat allergies. She was less than
two, three trips to the doctor for severe congestion the first time we
tried this and assumptions that I believe were correct at that time were
made.

Congratulations to your family, especially to Sassy and Willow. For her own
safety, please let Abi know that not all cats are as tolerant as Sassy. And
it's about time for Jody to realize his full potential and join the other
crazy cat lovers. We are looking forward to hearing more adventures as a cat
slave.

Congrats to Sassafras and Willow on doing the improbable, and ensnaring
Jody!! Also congrats to Sassafras to being able to understand how much
a 6 yr. old girl just needs a friend.
Mandy had Needles when she was 3-5. Needles would let Mandy carry him
around like that. Any one else found out why he was called Needles.
When Mandy was sick, Needles would sit by her and cry until Mandy felt
well enough to maul him again. They took turns sleeping on each other
(they were about the same size) and Needles would follow Mandy all over
the place wanting to be a part of whatever she was doing. Hopefully
Sassafras will be as understanding as Needles was.

Amzing how tolerant of little kids they can be. My dad's next-door
neighbor has a little girl who totes their cats around (one moggy, one
ragdoll) everywhere-- little arms wrapped around under their front
legs, back legs hanging-- she's really too little to hold them
properly-- and they just hang there (like ragdolls), totally docile.
They would never put up with it from an adult person.

Somewhere I read that when cats are held like that they cannot move
their legs.

Hehehe... My niece can hold Sassy that way and she's plenty able to move
around and fidgit.
Abi will now hold Sass like a baby, on her (the cat) back in her (Abi) arms.
Willow doesn't tolerate any holding. She'll love on your arms, legs and curl
against you but forget it, she doesn't like to be held.
Abi's been home for a couple hours and I haven't seen her since ;)
Jody just shakes his head and smirks. I don't think he exactly absolutely
adores Sassy yet, but he does enjoy watching his daughter so it's a matter
of time ;)
This weekend we're headed to TED and have one spayed, both of them aged and
shots.

Absolutely. OTOH from the family I described, I had a cousin who
would try to hold her enormous, bashful black cat Shadow like that,
and Shadow would not put up with it. If he couldn't move his back
legs, he isn't need to, because he did quite enough with his front
paws to make it understood that he wanted to get down.

Now you must scan those pictures and post them. I didn't think that a
cat would tolerate a hoomin sleeping on top of it. :)

Most won't but Needles was NOT normal, even for a cat. She would drag
him around with his back feet and tail dragging the ground and he'd
drool with happiness. Needles was a strange little guy. Mandy adored him.

Congratulations! I hope the two cats and the dog soon get along
indoors and provide lots of fun and happiness for the whole family. As
the kitten grows it might be as well to teach Abi the best way to hold
a cat. Loved cats seem to get so much bigger and heavier than
neglected cats.
