Okay, I love Persia.  I really do.  But today I was restless as I'm getting
ready for my trip to see John, my old/new love, in just a couple of days.  I
kept going to the computer room to use the phone to see how the art show was
going.  She'd follow me into that room.  I'd chat for a few minutes, answer
some email, send some email, then go back to the living room.  She'd follow
me and jump up on her kitty-cradle.

Then I'd go to the bedroom to see what else I needed to pack or unpack (I'm
excited *and* nervous about this, obviously!).  She'd follow me and loaf in
front of the sliding door.  Took a bath, washed my hair; she had to come in
and let me know that form of bathing is simply unnatural and protest loudly
while sitting on the toilet lid.

Back to the living room, going to read a bit.  She comes back out and jumps
on the cradle again.  I finally wear myself out and take a nap; she curls up
at my feet on the couch.  60 minutes later the phone rings - danged
telemarketer (on Memorial Day!)  I look at the clock, hmmm, I need to eat
something.  Head to the kitchen - MEOW?  Want a kitty treat?  OW-NOW!!! Give
her a treat.  Heat up some soup.  Back to the living room.  She's back to
the cradle.

And so it goes *All Day Long*.  You really don't have to follow me every
minute, Persia.  The apartment is only SO big and I only left once for 10
minutes, when you were meatloafing in the sunshine and couldn't care less.

Still, she persists.  I love her, but I nearly tripped over her several
times today.  I suspect it will only get worse as the day for my departure
approaches.  As my friend Scott McKenzie's cat, Spider, wrote to Persia
after I had my reunion with John after 23 years:  "Please be careful when
navigating territory anywhere near your human charge. She is in a state,
known mainly to female humans, variously described as "lovesick," "euphoric"
and "dazed." While in this condition she might very well walk right into
and/or over you.  She might even forget to feed you!"

I won't forget to feed her, but I do tend to be walking into/over her.  If
she wasn't there every time I turned around, this wouldn't happen.

Yep, that's the one.  Nice guy; he has a cat named Spider.

A little info on Scott if you're interested.  He turned 65 in January.
Doesn't perform anymore, except on very select occasions, but when he does
he dedicates that song )San Francisco) to VietNam vets.  Says he's met so
many over the years and they've given him badges, medals, etc. as keepsakes.

When Veteren's Day rolls around he goes to Washington, D.C. and takes a walk
from The Wall (VietNam War Memorial) across a bridge and through Arlington
National Cemetary.  He stops at his best friend John Phillips' (of the Mamas
& the Papas) father's grave (Claude Phillips).  Then he walks back around to
The Wall.

He claims his cat Spider is very fat but has no photos of him :(  I
periodically send him pics of Persia.

Of Spider, he wrote to me in April:  "I have told him repeatedly to stop
reading my Email, but he continues to read it anyhow.  It's almost as if he
doesn't listen to me. How unusual for a cat."

Scott has a wonderful, facetious sense of humour!  :)

Yes, she's John Phillips daughter.  He and Scott were best friends.

How do you know him? I used to love that San Francisco song when I was
a kid. But once it stopped being a hit, I never heard it again. Not,
that is, until I moved to the Bay Area, where I hear it regularly. I
guess it never stopped being a hit around here. :)

Funny story, that.  Several years back I signed a guest book on a web site.
I had written some comments about my father, who is a VietNam vet.  Next
thing I know I get an email from Scott McKenzie and we started corresponding
about the war, etc.  He made a book recommendation, I made one in return.
It just grew into a pen-pal friendship, talking about (and to and from) our
cats and all sorts of other silly things.  Scott suffers from
manic-depression, which is one reason he stopped performing.  Sometimes a
month or so will go by without an email, then wham! he's writing as
prolifically as if he were writing the great American novel.  But he has a
lovely sense of humour about everything, especially himself.

She is aware that you are leaving her again and is keeping track of
you so you don't get away. As D-day approaches, better check your
suitcases for a stowaway!

There's your problem.  You already have packed stuff in the bedroom.  Cats
with hoomins who travel quickly get to know the significance of a suitcase
or backpack.  Vino is an expert at predicting imminent travel.  The trick is
to keep things to be packed in the closet until the last minute, when you
get out the suitcase and chuck the stuff in as fast as possible.  That way
they don't stress in anticipation of you leaving.
But then again, a little bit of velcro cat isn't such a bad thing!  I always
get that for 3-5 days after coming back from a trip.

Sandpaper kisses, a cuddle and a purr. I have an alarm clock that's covered
in fur!
