Lots42 The Library Avenger - 31 May 2004 21:30 GMT Things Harvey Doesn't Understand
1) That blocking my way to the food, by standing three microns away from my feet is illogical. I have to be able to move in order to get to the food.
2) That we close the door to the enclosed decks, even if he runs out there. Because there's things like one million percent humidity and a.c. and they don't mix.
3) That it's possible to use the litter to cover things up once he goes.
4) Lizard and frog bits belong -outside-.
5) Humans like to snuggle him.
6) That the meat doesn't change. If he rejects part of a roast beef sandwhich, the rest of the sandwhich is not going to magically change into ham just for him.

JPHobbs - 05 Jun 2004 06:51 GMT Yeah, I was just posting to someone that Wilson sits so close to me when i'm eating and just stares at me but when I offer him some he just sniffs, but still he has to sniff everything I eat, maybe he thinks someone is going to poison me. Jean.P.

What is it with cats and ham? Vino adores ham too! More than anything else. But the weirdest thing is that they never seem to have ham or pork flavoured cat food. They have chicken and turkey and beef and lamb and various fish and seafood, I've even heard of rabbit...but never ever ham. Hmmmm....I could make some money off this idea ;-) -- Britta Sandpaper kisses, a cuddle and a purr. I have an alarm clock that's covered in fur! Scrapple? Whazzat?!?! I've heard of chorizo, but am quite unlikely to be able to try any in the near future seeing as how I'm in Thailand that that sort of stuff isn't quite so common around here. But the Thais do have some darned good pork products! Best, juiciest, most tender BBQ chops I've ever had amongst others...mmmmm! -- Britta Sandpaper kisses, a cuddle and a purr. Basically it's whatever is left over of the pig plus the cornmeal.
Hmmm! Posting a URL to some armadillo recipes and talking about scrapple and chorizo in the same day -- I must be hungry. That's right, I am hungry -- time to hit the icebox. Bye!

JPHobbs - 06 Jun 2004 13:21 GMT What is scrapple?it couldn't be crackling could it? Jean

It is a Pennsylvania Dutch (German immigrants to Pennsylvania) dish. This tells more about it http://www.globalgourmet.com/food/sleuth/0998/scrapple.html.
Personally, I think it's good, but my background is Pennsylvania Dutch.

I don't think it's on the heart-healthy diet though :-) At first I thought you were talking about cracklins, but that's a whole different deal. That's what you get when you render down the fat from the pig to make lard, the bits of meat cook crisp and are left at the bottom. Quite a treat for some people.

Sounds good to me, too, as long as you ignore what the article says goes into it. Of course this sentence might scare off some folks: "Although edible raw, Scrapple is usually sliced and fried in butter or lard. Served in a deep, placid pool of egg yolk and ketchup, it is a veritable cholesterol meltdown."

And there ain't no better cornbread than that with cracklins in it! BTW, I'm referring to "southern cornbread", not the stuff with sugar in it. Sam

There is a local area grocery store (Wegmans) in Central New York (US) that carries a ham flavoured cat food in the small (3 oz) cans. Every once in a while I will get a couple as treats for my crew. It is the ONLY ham flavoured cat food I have ever seen!

Few hours later, as we went to bed, I found a pile of half-digested deli-sliced ham in the middle of the bed. Lizzie hasn't wanted ANY food we eat since then. Poor kitty.

One time when Amber was ill a few years ago I got him some ham baby food. He ate it when he wouldn't eat anything else. But when he got well, it wasn't good enough!

I have to be able to move in order to get to the food. Nikki does this too. Makes Frank mad, as he is the one who usually really wants fed NOW, and then Nikki stands in my way so I can't get the food in their dishes.

Perhaps they hope we'll slip, fall and dump the entire container/scoop of food right there. Who needs dishes??

It doesn't? Boy are my cats weirded out. They are sure that it will change for them, even if it doesn't.
