My daughter just sent me a pic of her cat. He's a Maine Coon, and has long fur
that tends to be greasy. She gets him shaved every summer. I used to think it
was awful, he looked like an alien cat, but I've changed my mind about it. He
doesn't go outside, but stays in the enclosure a lot. In the summer he'd get
matted really bad. Now he just *acts* so different. He acts happier, and
definitely more comfortable. He doesn't look that bad once you get used to it.

LOL's! I still rememeber the first time we did this to Winston(short for
Winston Churchhill)(RB), he was a big, regal, aloof, pompous, smoke/blk
Persian(with the BIGGEST, most beautiful, golden eyes you have EVER
seen!!!)....after his haircut(that was really more of a lion cut) he became
a friendly, loving lap fungus.....I suspect he knew the other kitties were
laughing at him and he needed our extra support and loving pets and coos :-)

Awww.... he's a cutie! We'd probably give Xoxo and Rufous (our two
long-haired cats) a haircut in the summer if they seemed unhappy.
Apparently it's not hot enough for them right now (96 F) since they're
both napping outside in the enclosure... :)

I think it's a very dignified and *cool* look - hey comfort is more
important than looks (ummmm.....at least that's the view I have now in the
*wisened* age bracket of mine (30 (OMG almost 40!) something) <grin>)

We used to have our red cocker spaniel shorn every summer. After the
first day, when he was a little embarrassed, he felt great. I think
the cat looks fine.
