We were over at my sister's house today and they have a kitten that is of
the orange tabby persuasion.  He has two paws on each front foot.  It is the
most unusual thing I've ever seen.  He has two front feet with 5 toes on
each foot.  Then on the inside of the two front feet he has two smaller
feet.  The two smaller feet have three toes on each of them.  When I can, I
will take a picture of him and his 6 feet and place a link to it on this
group.  When he walks and grabs things his feet look like chameleon feet.
Anyone ever seen anything like this?  One time I saw some cats that had 7
toes on each front foot, but nothing like this.

My daughter has a cat like that.  I'd never seen anything like it
either.  It's almost as though she has opposable thumbs.  If she weren't
so terribly shy and skittery, she could accomplish all sorts of things.

With opposable thumbs, she might even be able to open her own cat food.
Perhaps this is the next stage in cat evolution, God help us when they don't
need us to handle the tin opener ;-)

All the poly cats I've known have been very assertive with their extra
toes.  They waved their paws around all the time trying to catch
stuff.

They also become very adept at opening cabinet doors. Yoda is very tall, and
stands on his back feet wraps those paws around the doorknob and tries to turn
it. But the cutest thing is, if he's asleep, you can touch the pad of his foot,
and he wraps those toes around your finger, just like a baby's fingers. I love
playing with those feet.

Be very afraid. :) That sounds adorable, but those very prehensile feet
will enable him and cats like him to attain the ultimate cat goal, and we
all know what that is!

Yeah, I have a feeling as soon as the Yo-Man learns to open a cat food can,
it's all over.

I thought my friend's master, Timmy, achieved it when he was waving a
polydactyl paw around one evening when she had company, and managed
to snag her slip and yank it down around her ankles.

Hmm... I wonder what his motives were? I guess it depends on who the
company was. If it was someone she was dating, perhaps Timmy was trying
to speed things along? Whereas if it was an important business client,
maybe he was playing a practical joke on her - or it could have been his
way of saying that she worked too hard, and needed to be home with him
more. The possibilities are endless...

Well, a couple of months ago there was the discussion about the
German kitten with four ears.  The web link is no longer active, but
you can find the discussion in Google by looking for message id

thread.

On Google, research polydactyls

I've seen cats with 6-7 toes on each regular paw. I've also seen cats that seem
to have two paws on each leg, a big paw and a little paw. It's called
polydactylism, many digits. I think the record is 28 toes. Does your cat have
more than this? He could set a record.
