With my cat being  long haired its fur knots very easily especially in
the summertime I am looking for information on the best way to prevent
this from happening.

Have you tried brushing routinely?

My aunt has two Himalayans and has them groomed once a month.  They trim all
the belly fur short when they groom them so it won't get knotted.  She
brushes them daily as well.
