Has anyone actually met a Sphynx?   I have, at a couple of cat shows.
They have amazing personalities; I can't decide whether it is that
they just don't know they're ugly, or they know it and are determined
to charm the pants off everyone.  They are like they read "How to WIn
Friends and Influence People."
I don't know if I could own one, but the ones I met were so friendly
and put on this total charm offensive -- "Hey how are you?  You're
looking great.  That color really matches your eyes.  Have you met
Tommy?  How are the kids?  Do you have any pictures?"    ;) -- you
almost forget how they look.

Of course, the people who really love them *like* how they look.

It was amazing to see them "go to work" on people.  People would stop
by to gape at them, or ask questions, and weren't entirely
comfortable.   These were mostly the other cat breeders and fanciers,
after all-- Persians, Siamese, Main Coons, etc.--  and the appearance
of fur is what a lot of them are interested in -- color, length,
texture, point patterns, etc.
But these funny-looking critters are so familiar in their behavior and
demeanor-- they *are* cats, after all-- they chirrup, stretch, purr,
bat at feathers.  And then they are sooooo interested in you.  "Tell
me all about yourself.  Oh, you have a dog?  How lovely.
<Prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr prrrrrrrrrrrrrrr prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr>"  In a
minute, you are holding one (they feel pretty nice, BTW, not leathery,
but sort of velvety), and it is snuggling you, saying "Take me home,
you know you want to."

Hmm... "tell me all about yourself"? Are you *sure* they're cats? :)

They do sound very, very sweet. Is this the cat that's non-allergenic?

They all read "How to Win Friends and Influence People." ;) They are
like little salesmen, except not obnoxious; ;)

I don't really know.  I'lll check it out.
It seems like they should be, but they aren't completely devoid of
hair-- they have a very light coating of it-- so they probably still
produce dander.

A couple years ago i met a couple of Sphynx cats and got to pet them.
They are really very soft. and have a very thin fine coat. These were
very friendly. And large. With a Sphynx one never has to worry about
hairballs and hair all over the place!

I'm one of the ones that actually likes how they look.  Aside from a bengal,
and the garden variety persians, the other breed of cat I've seen is a
scottish fold. I'd love to see a sphynx though. They're gorgeous animals :)

Tom needs to meet one and get the Sphynx full-court charm press.  I
thought they were hideous, too, but you just don't see them the same
way after meeting one.  ;)

This can happen, after all, with furry cats, can't it?  You can see
one who is certainly not your ideal of feline beauty, but you end up
getting sucked in by his/her personality.  And you end up loving
him/her anyway, even his/her weird looks. ;)
