Purrs for my Dad

When it rains, it pours.

I just found out my father is going in for vascular surgery on Thursday,
5/20.  He has blockages in his femoral artery which need to be cleared up;
they are doing laser surgery and inserting a balloon (angio-plasty style).
Dad is almost 80 years old.  Seems to think he'll be out the next day.  My
mom had something similar done almost 20 years ago.  While the techniques
are more refined these days, she told me, "He's not going to be doing Gene
Kelly 'Singing in the Rain' for a while."  Any purrs you can offer are
appreciated.

Jill,

My dad (he is 65has had an angio done on one femoral artery in his neck
about three months ago - other than a noticable scar on his neck he is fine.
He also just had an aneurysm (sp?) removed off the part of the aorta that
runs behind the stomach, he was up and around the next day, he did much
better than I thought he would.  They can do wonders with vascular and heart
surgery now of days, your dad should be fine.

Purrs and prayers being sent your way.

Angioplasty should be pretty easy on him. I had the whole femoral arteries in
both legs replaced because they were too bad for stents or angioplasty. The
results were *immediate*, it was really amazing what new plumbing can do. DH
kept telling people visiting in the hospital, "Feel how warm her feet are!" I
had to tell him to stop it, it was embarrassing and nobody except him really
cared how cold or warm my feet were.

Sherry, that's pretty much what they did with my mom 20 years ago.  Her feet
still get cold, though.  Thanks to you and everyone else for the kind words
and encouragement :) I am sure everything will be fine.

Purrs are on their way, Jill.  You and your family have had a lot of
burdens to bear recently.  I hope the surgery goes well and your Dad is
right about his recovery.  I know that's one time you and your Mom would
love to be wrong.
