loves it when I mow the lawn. Just finished doing the task. All the while I was
out there, the mowing brought up small insects from the grass. There was a pied
wagtail (see http://www.rspb.org.uk/birds/guide/p/piedwagtail/index.asp )
following me around feasting away on the insects I'd disturbed. As soon as the
mower stopped, out popped Waffles into the garden and she went straight into
huntress mode, rooting about the edges of the lawn for mousies, shrews and
voles. Whilst she was doing this, I topped up the bird feeding stations with
nuts and sunflower seeds. Cue Waffles to sit on the lawn immediately beneath a
feeder several feet over her head and *stare* at the feeder, as if to will a
bird to land on it and then hop down into her jaws. Now why a cat that has
black fur should think that by sitting on a *green* lawn, she should be
rendered invisible to birds, I'm not exactly sure. I pointed out the possible
flaw in her plan, but she took no notice.

We have those on the island. How aplty named they are in English! They
certainly like to wag their tails! They also like to tease the cats, running
right in front of their noses and then flying off when the cat tries to
follow. Nikki has had many "I meant to do that" moments with them. ;o) Never
caught one, as far as I know.

I know that feline expression rather well. Francis is very good at it.
